Miley Cyrus: Taking a Wrecking Ball to her career?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Eckerd chapter.

We’ve seen it happen time and time again with young, talented celebrities. As soon as they start to shed their cute child star image they go off the deep end. The pressure of the fame, the criticism of their every action and desire to be viewed as an adult transforms them from a successful sweetheart into a racy celebrity with no lines drawn. But is Miley really different than her predecessors, Brittany, Lindsey and Amanda? She claims she is.

When she’s not twerking and showing off her tongue, the singer has a lot to say about her career moves. According to Miley, the now notorious VMA’s performance wasn’t as extreme as it could have been.

Of course the question now is, what’s next? Miley’s ‘Wrecking Ball’ music video came out to bring her name back up to one of the top twitter trends as soon as her VMA performance started to lose its fuel. And just this week MTV aired her one-hour documentary on her music and creative input on her career. Well, the singer made it clear that her next move is certainly not going to be the expected,

“Now people expect me to come out and twerk with my tongue out all the time. I’ll probably never do that s**t again,” she said in a recent interview with Rolling Stone Magazine.

It really does seem like Miley is aware of what she is doing, but I wonder if she’s aware of the fact that the shock value of her recent stunts has a much sooner expiration date than performances with more focus on art than vulgarity.

Another thing the star admits in her interview is her being a mentor to Justin Bieber, to, of all the things, keep him from falling off the deep end. Which further proves that she may not follow the path of the others straight into a rehab center. But where will these recent acts lead her? I’ll leave that up to you guys to predict.
