Meet the New Director of Palmetto Productions: Danielle Buchanan

Class: 2015

Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia

Major: Biology

Minor(s): French and Anthropology

You may have seen this week’s Campus Celebrity, Danielle Buchanan around campus but most likely, you’ve seen her handing out Springtopia cupcakes and koozies at the mailboxes, throwing out last year’s awesome tie-dye Springtopia tanks at Spring Ball, running around in a giant hamster ball, or at one of the various events and activities hosted by Palmetto Productions. Ever since becoming a member of Palmetto Productions, Eckerd College’s campus activities board, almost three years ago, Danielle has ascended the ranks to her current position of Director of Palmetto Productions. But what exactly does ascending the ranks of Palmetto entail? Danielle began her journey on the Committee where she assisted in setting up events and learned the intricacies associated with event planning. Last year, Danielle was Director of Comedies and Novelties and was responsible most notably for the giant hamster balls that were brought to campus. This year, as Director of Palmetto Productions, Danielle oversees a board of students who hold various titles ranging from Director of: Cultural Arts, Concerts, Comedies and Novelties, Traditional Events, Public Relations, Media Management, and Holidays, in addition to the Committee.

Danielle says that last year she was inspired to become more involved in Palmetto Productions and run for Director because she was inspired by the example set by the previous Director Alex Stader. Danielle, credits Alex Stader with opening up the thought process of event planning as a career for her because of his own innovation and success. But what exactly does Danielle hope to accomplish as Director? This year Danielle wants to take all of the events hosted by Palmetto Productions to the next level; she wants to make Springtopia even better, keep Eckerd as weird as possible, and bring more surprise events to Eckerd’s campus. As a soon-to-graduate Senior, Danielle hopes that the legacy she leaves at Eckerd is the unforgettable events that will be held this year. Hopefully we will be talking about Springtopia 2015 for years to come and Danielle will inspire us to become more involved in campus life at Eckerd.

Danielle is an amazing example and advocate of campus life at Eckerd to us all as she is involved in many extracurricular activities besides Palmetto Productions. In addition to serving as Director of Palmetto Productions, Danielle is a Campus Correspondent for Her Campus, a volleyball coach at a local middle school, and a member of the Pre-Health Club and AAS, the Afro-American Society. Also, this semester Danielle has an internship at the Children’s Hospital where she is studying a panel of genes from children with Leukemia and other bone cancers; she organizes and condenses the genes that are associated with cancer in order to perform further research. Danielle is a great asset to the Eckerd community and will be greatly missed next year. Be sure to look for Danielle at the club fair on September 19th and consider becoming more involved at Eckerd!
