A Few of My Favorite Things: Duke in the SpringBy April 17, 2013 - 12:38am Campus is in bloom There’s no question that Duke’s campus is well-known. Consistently recognized on “Most Beautiful Campus” lists, it’s definitely a highlight of the spring. The overdose of chapel pics and cherry blossom trees on my Facebook and Instragram feeds is a small price to pay in exchange for such a gorgeous campus. READ MORE |

Summer PlansBy April 16, 2013 - 12:36am With summer coming up, check out what other Duke students have planned for the break. Prepare to be impressed! “I am going to India and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to visit family, and then I’m doing DukeEngage in Colombia, working with internally displaced people through the documentary arts.”-Nikita Yogesh, ‘15 “I am going home to South Africa! That’s all that matters.”-Busi Sibeko, ‘16 “I'm going to be volunteering for most of the summer in a children's transit home (for children abandoned or abused) in Idi-Araba, Lagos Nigeria. I'm also going to intern at a law firm.”-Adesuwa Giwa-Osagie ‘15 READ MORE |

Home Sweet HomeBy April 2, 2013 - 12:16am Finding a place to live can be stressful, especially with the new housing model! So, I’ve compiled a list of off-campus housing that caters to Duke students. If you are living on campus next year, this could still be a good resource for the future! It’s never too early to plan where you’re going to live. The 2009 off-campus housing survey that I refer to below ranked many apartments close to campus on a scale of 1 (unsatisfied) to 4 (very satisfied). Check out this link for the full survey. Eating Off CampusBy March 25, 2013 - 12:00am The buzz is that Durham is the new foodie town. When limited to campus eateries, this might seem untrue. Restaurants where?! Next time you are bored of campus food or have a special occasion, try one of these places and see what everyone is taking about! Babbaganouj: Authentic, well-priced, delicious Lebanese food in large portions—what more could you ask for? The only downfall with this place is that they don’t do home deliveries. Try a platter if you’re feeling hungry, or one of the filling wraps (which have everything from meat to French fries and hummus in them)! The food is all very fresh and healthy. This place is perfect for grabbing lunch or a casual dinner with your friends. There are two locations. READ MORE... |

Spring Break EssentialsBy March 6, 2013 - 12:00am Heading to a hot, sandy beach for spring break? Don't forget to pack these essentials to ensure that the cold, rainy weather is the only thing you leave behind! 1.) Tote Bag The tote is the perfect bag for your holiday. You can use it when you go to the beach, go shopping and even when you travel! It is easily accessible, and you can throw everything right in. It also doubles as a substitute book bag for when you get back! Look for a bag that is a neutral color so you can pair it with your bright and patterned cover-ups, or if you’re feeling bold, try a striking print. READ MORE |

Being a Feminist is ExhaustingBy March 4, 2013 - 12:00am While reading an article on Jezebel about Seth MacFarlane’s sexist jokes at the Oscars, I came across this quote by the article’s writer, Lindy West, “My struggle as a feminist and a critic isn't to contain my outrage—it's to remind myself to feel anything at all.” This sentence explains a feminist’s dilemma in one condensed package.
