Orientation on Land vs. Orientation at SeaBy August 31, 2012 - 12:00am Greetings from the Atlantic Ocean! Stranded at sea with hundreds of miles from land in any direction, Cara and I finally accepted that we would not be returning to Duke this Fall. Our Semester at Sea 107-day adventure to 14 different countries has finally begun! As much as we’ll miss riding the bull at Wednesday Night Shooters, having dinner once (four times) a week at Sushi Love and being surrounded by thousands of other Cameron Crazies, we are so excited for the next 3 ½ months. Love, Lillith: How to Live With So Many Smart People, and Other Important but Often Unheard Tidbits of AdviceBy August 25, 2012 - 12:00am In welcoming you to Duke, Guns N' Roses says it best with their intimidatingly simple song title, “Welcome to the Jungle.” Duke, like any college, is a scary unknown to all incoming freshmen. But if you learn not to be too daunted by it, and to embrace all the proverbial lions and tigers and bears that come your way, by the end of your first year at Duke you will be going beast-mode. Alright, enough of the tacky symbolism. To make the process of acclimating to your profoundly different and new life a bit easier, I have some excellent how-to advice and recommendations not found in your Blue Book that I learned from my freshmen year and sincerely wish someone had given me beforehand.... |

From East to West: Looking Back on Freshman YearBy May 4, 2012 - 12:00am Nostalgia has officially kicked in. I can’t believe our first year at Duke is coming to a close. Classes have officially ended, we had our first LDOC experience, and now it’s time to buckle down and take final exams. My mom just called me about plans for packing up the car in a few days… wait, what? Where has the time gone?? It seems like everywhere I turn, people are reflecting on their freshman year at Duke. Almost every conversation I’ve had lately with friends revolves around so many memories and the not-so-many regrets, what we are going to miss the most, what we have learned about the college life, and, most importantly, what we have learned about ourselves. ... |

#SorryI’mNotSorry, and You Shouldn’t be Either: Ben & Jerry’s > Bikini SeasonBy April 30, 2012 - 12:00am So my dinner consisted of 5 courses, 4 of which may have been dessert… #SorryI’mNotSorry It is that dreaded time of year again… no not finals (as if those are hard). I am talking about something far more terrifying: bikini season. I knew something strange was going on when I was at dinner the other evening and my suggestion to get LOYO was met by complete silence (imagine my shocked face). Finally, one of my friends decided to take pity and inform me that they couldn’t possibly get LOYO because they were going to Myrtle in a few weeks and would have to be seen in a bikini. Right… so, LOYO for one then? READ MORE ... |
