Sometimes in the morning, I don’t wake up in a new Bugatti. I wake up with my eye make up smeared down my face and my hair more tangled than Taylor Swift’s love life. We’ve all experienced this to some degree. Your roommate kept you up half the night arguing with her boyfriend from back home. Or your professor gave you 200 pages of reading due by tomorrow (I’m still trying to figure out why our tuition doesn’t include a year supply of five hour energy). Whatever the case may be, one thing that we’re all giving up is sleep. However, I’m beginning to learn the secret to appearing happy and outgoing even after only getting four hours of rest: the power nap. Just close your eyes for twenty minutes and I guarantee you will feel so much better (unless you’re on the bus or the treadmill). There is nothing like the feeling of being refreshed after a quick nap. Even pop culture endorses the power nap. One of my favorite scenes from the TV show Gilmore Girls involves Lorelai asking Rory if the overly ambitious and aggressive Paris ever sleeps, to which Rory responds, “I think she just periodically makes a whirring noise and then shuts down.” This is exactly how I think of the power nap. You have to be careful though because sometimes it can get the best of you as demonstrated from these photos taken throughout campus (no judgment here).

The wrestlers on my hallway engage in some hardcore team bonding.

Econ can be a pain.

My roommate asked me how I got the inspiration for this article. I showed her this picture.

The only thing more exhausting than five hours in the library is five hours in a shopping mall.

As you can see, the power nap has taken over campus. So try closing your eyes for a few minutes; you don’t have to tackle your entire to-do list right now. If someone happens to take your picture though, don’t blame me.

Freshman at Duke University! I love my friends, running, buying things I can't afford, and watching Gossip Girl.
