30 Things we Learned from Friday Night Lights

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DU chapter.

There are few things that have taught us more than a few Dillon Panther playoff games and five seasons of Friday Night Lights. We have Coach Taylor to thank for his voice in our head when we’re feeling defeated, Mrs. Taylor to think of when we feel like there’s no one around to listen, Lyla Garrity to keep us wishing we were her, and Tim Riggins to keep us wishing we were his. No matter who and no matter what, there countless lessons we can take away from our Dillon, TX family, and all that happened ever since Matt Saracen became QB1:

1. The two greatest things in life.2. Grammar is essential.

3. You gotta’ drink when you gotta’ drink.

4. Dads will always be dads (even Coach Taylor).

5. There’s nothing wrong with taking the “Smash Williams approach” and focusing solely on yourself.

6. It’s okay to get fed up with your hometown.

7. But always have pride in where you come from.

8. Don’t be afraid to let yourself fall in love.

…no matter what (and no matter who’s watching).

9. You are never alone.

10. But what sets you apart is that you never let anything make you forget who you are.

11. And there’s nothing wrong with rolling down your windows and blasting your lady jam to help remind you who that is.

12. Even when your world shakes…

…there’s always a blessing behind it. Don’t give up until you find it.13. Boys will always be boys…

…always.

14. But never forget that they may not be as different from you as you think.

15. Things don’t always go as planned – not even God’s will.

16. Never forget who made you you, and never forget to thank them for it.

17. People come and go – even the ones you never dreamt of losing…

…even when it makes no sense at all.

18. The difference between giving it all and giving it half, is that only one is going to help define you.

19. Inspire the people around you.

20. Abandonment does not lower your self-worth.

21. It’s okay not to be okay.

22. And it’s even more okay to admit it.

23. Strive.

Never stop striving.

24. Don’t let anyone’s plans get in the way of yours.

25. There are so many ways to say “I love you.”

26. Pride doesn’t always come from success.

27. Always surround yourself with your people.

28. At the end of the day, family is what’s most important.

29. Follow your dreams.

30. “Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose.”
