5 Ways to Beat the Heat in the City

Summertime in the city is almost here and with that, comes heat, humidity and the sun blasting down on you. But, no worries! There are plenty of places in the city that will provide some shade from the heat and can also be a fun place to spend some time outdoors.

 

1. Penn’s Landing

Penn’s Landing is the perfect place to go when you want to get out from the sun. It is right by the Delaware River, so it gives off a nice cool breeze and they always have plenty of events going on throughout the year. In the summertime, their most popular attraction is Spruce Street Harbor Park. They have multiple popular food vendors, cute hammocks to lay in and different activities to keep you entertained. They also host many festivals through the summer, and yoga classes in the morning and afternoon. So, there’s something for everyone!

 

2. Visit some museums

With so many different museums in Philly, like the art museum, the Mütter Museum, or the Eastern State Penitentiary, you are bound to see something new every time. Most museums will give a discount if you show your student ID, so you won’t have to break the bank.

 

3. Beer Gardens

In the city, there are plenty of beer gardens to stop at to get a few drinks with some friends. Going during happy hour means a nice discount on your favorite beer or mixed drinks, and having a good time after a long day at work.

 

4. Visit an ice cream shop

What’s better than a nice, cold cup of ice cream on a hot day? Nothing. There are some amazing places to grab the sweet treat. One of the most popular places is Franklin Fountain in Old City. They have handmade ice cream that is super good and they have a wide array of flavors. Another great place is Lil’ Pop Shop in Center City. Their popsicles are just so cute and they have so may unique flavors that you can’t go wrong with, whichever one you choose.

 

5. Check out some outdoor movies

If you really want to stay out of the sun, there are outdoor movies that take place all throughout the summer. And, the movies tend to be very recent, so you can see a movie that you’ve been meaning to see for a while, and they are usually free! Not to mention that most places will have free food for you, so it’s a win-win situation!

 

Now that you know all of the coolest places to stay cool during the summer, grab some friends and head out and enjoy your sunny days!
