Ranking Every Place I’ve Pulled an All Nighter at Dickinson from Worst to Best

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Dickinson chapter.

All-nighters: they are painful, but sometimes necessary. If you are like me, you’ve pulled countless all-nighters. Each one is a little different and some are better than others. That can be due to a variety of factors such as the people you pull an all-nighter with, what snacks you decided to get from the d-den, and where you decided to pull your all-nighter.

When it comes to the nightmare world of all-nighters, I believe location is everything. In order to have the least painful all-nighter as possible, you need to pick the right place. That is why I ranked the places I have pulled an all-nighter on campus from worst to best.

9. The Micro Room

The micro room is the absolute worst place to pull an all-nighter. There is no color, no personality, and no joy whatsoever in this dark corner of the hub. I’ve only pulled an allnighter here once, and I never will again. If you decide to set up camp here, be prepared for a long and lonely night.

8. Kauffman

You might be thinking that Kauffman should be higher on this list. They have nice chairs and the proximity to Quick Stop Deli is an added bonus. However, Kauffman is a journey from anywhere I have ever lived on campus and the lights shut off on you in Kauffman about every 6 minutes or so.

7. My Dorm Room

There are a lot of positives to pulling an all-nighter in your own room. You don’t have to walk anywhere, you don’t have to worry about seeing anyone (besides your roommate), and you can wear pajamas without judgment. The downside is that you will probably fall asleep in your bed and not get your work done. That’s a big downside.

6. The Underground

The underground is colorful and offers a wide selection of workspaces. You even have the added bonus of being able to hit up the d-den as soon as it opens at 8am! However, the underground can get kind of creepy when there is nobody else around.

5. The 4th Floor Common Room of Morgan

The common room of Morgan Hall was a solid place to pull an all nighter. You have the convenience of staying in your dorm, without the risk of falling asleep in the middle of your work.

4. Althouse

Althouse was the perfect place to pull an all-nighter. It has comfortable classrooms with very few distractions. Unfortunately, last year the college took away 24 hour access to Althouse. The sleepless yet productive nights in Althouse are now just a memory.

3. Rector

Rector is an awesome place to pull an all-nighter. There are tons of cool classrooms and study nooks to work your night away. You also will not be alone, since all of the science majors pull an all-nighter there once a week.

2. The Radio Station

The radio station is the coolest place to pull an all-nighter. However, you need a connection with someone who has card access to radio station, otherwise you won’t be able to get in.

1. The Lib

The library is my favorite study spot. There is truly something for everyone at the lib. You can only pull a true all-nighter at the lib during finals week, since it normally closes at 2 A.M., but the all-nighters I have pulled at the lib have been the least painful.
