Top 11 Places to Go in the World

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DESU chapter.

Wanderlust: A strong desire to travel. I am a wanderlust, a traveler, wanderer, and exploring, always wanting to explore and see every aspect of life.  Throughout my years, I have had the privilege to travel to every continent, except Antarctica, and adapt too many cultures.  Here is a list of my top ten places to go in the world:

  1. Okinawa, Japan

The biggest island in the Ryukyu Islands of Japan where life is simple, positive, and safe.  This island is more of the country life.  There are many activities from historical monuments, beaches, and water activities from the Battle of Okinawa Caves to scuba diving.  Three of my favorite cities to visit is American City, Naha, and Nago along with the special events and ceremonies that take place such as the Tug of War festival and the Cherry Blossom Festival along with a variety of daring and delicious food.

  1. Turkey

A country full of wonder, rugs, and sunshine with locals who love to befriend tourists.  There are     many restaurants to dine and relax in with a variety of food such as chicken and cheese and     kabobs.  Different monuments along with a famous beach called Castle by the Sea.  You could also     get an insight on their culture with hearing the prayer songs five times a day.

  1. Egypt

Interested in seeing the famous history of Egypt, trying a new food, exploring the small markets, or enjoying the heated weather?  Well you can get all of that since you will be in the desert with the Pyramids of Giza, ride a camel, and ride down the Nile River.  You can also experience the different monuments, Sahara desert, and culture.

  1. Cambodia

Not only is Cambodia an older culture, but it is known for its history and monuments.  You get to     experience riding elephants, seeing the Ankor Wat, and fruity meals.  Although it does have a high     humidity, it is definitely worth going too for the experience.

  1. Vietnam

As a deal package with Cambodia, I was able to go to Vietnam and experience monuments     significant to their culture.  Similar to Cambodia, but different food with more citrus and     experience the history of the Vietnam War.

  1. Japan

While living in Okinawa, we traveled around Asia and Japan was one of the stops.  Japan (Mainland Japan) is full of the city of wonderful adventures and sights to see.  There is the Times Square where the most people walk, castles, shrines, karaoke, and Disney.  It is definitely known for its city culture along with its shopping.

  1. Australia

Expensive and beautiful, since their seasons are opposite it was our summer and their winter.  The     bridge is beautiful, opera house is a pristine sight, and the culture is significant.  There is delicious     food, many cities to access through the bus, and accents galore.  Tourist attractions everywhere     and many activities to try.

  1. Thailand

Similar to Vietnam and Cambodia, the food is to die for.  I experienced the country side along with city which included a famous water puppet show and seeing all of Thailand.  There are temples and shrines around the country, little kids selling products, and my favorite of all: night and day markets.  You can ride elephants, visit the famous palace and view their history along with eat authentic Thai food.

  1. China

One of the most crowded places but beautiful with many things to see and experience.  I had gone     to three cities, Beijing, Shang Hai, and Xion.  There are definitely nine million bicycles in Beijing,     the Great Wall is amazing with all of its stonework and history, and temples.  I had visited for     Thanksgiving and got to eat peaking duck instead of Turkey along with go to an acrobat show.

  1. Mexico

Known for its monuments, food, and colorful culture this is a great place to vacation.  With     crossing the Rio Grande, overeating the authentic food, visiting its history, and enjoying the beach.      Although usually crowded with tourists and crowded going into and exiting, it is definitely worth     the wait.
