Music Man Presents: DPU Sizzling Summer Mix

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePauw chapter.

Finals are almost over and every collegiette has one thing on her mind: summer! Whether you are soaking up some sun, dancing in the rain, or busy in the business world you can expect this summer to be big on the music scene. Here are ten great songs to ensure everyone has a fun and safe summer!

1. “What a Feeling,” Alex Gaudina ft. Kelly Rowland. It’s not officially summer without a great Kelly Rowland dance track. Although it isn’t Kelly’s typical partner in crime, Alex Guadino produces another great beat to showcase Kelly’s powerful voice.

2. “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” Katy Perry. Katy has been producing hit after hit and this next single proves nothing will slow her down. For ladies hitting up the professional scene, this is the perfect song to jam to on the way home from work.

3. “Give Me Everything” Pitbull ft. Ne-Yo, Afrojack & Nayer. Pitbutll assembled an all-star group to feature on his latest single and the song delivers. Not the traditional heavy club banger, his latest single mixes pop and rap. This is a perfect summer song to jam to without any regrets.

4. “The Edge of Glory” Lady Gaga. Lady Gaga has been releasing promotional tracks up until her album’s release May 23, 2011. Due to the success of the song, Lady Gaga announced “The Edge of Glory” would be the third single off her new album. It’s nothing short of a dance floor dominator, plus a little saxophone too.

5. “Don’t Stop the Party” The Black Eyed Peas. This song is an epic club smash combining rap, electro-pop, and techno. Electro beats and a heart-pounding bass will have everyone dancing all night.

6. “Crazy Beautiful Life” Ke$ha. It’s hard to remember the days before Ke$ha wasn’t blasting at every college party, this next track is the perfect summer anthem. Just living the life, falling in love, and getting a little bit high on life – of course Ke$ha style.

7. “That Other Chick” JoJo. It’s been a while since we last heard from JoJo, but after overcoming record label woes she is finally ready to remerge as one of the music scene’s favorite pop artists. Her power-house vocals paired with the over-produced Pop/R&B jam will make you forget all about being that other chick.

8. “I Wanna Go” Britney Spears. This spring has been all about the Spears because Brit’s back. Her third single won’t disappoint with its dance pop feel and care free lyrics.

9. “Right There” Nicole Scherzinger ft 50 Cent. The days of the Pussycat Dolls are long gone, but Nicole is back with a breezy summer smash about summer love. It’s pop perfection and a perfect lead to her new gig as The X Factor host.

10. “Good Life” OneRepublic. Grab your friends for a roadtrip and jam to this feel good track with the car windows down. This song exudes sunshine even if the weather is blue. Summer really is the good life.

Have a sweet and safe summer!
