Lights, Camera, GREEK WEEK

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePauw chapter.

This past week DePauw’s Greek councils joined together to show their Greek Pride by participating in a week full of fun activities. The Greek councils on campus consist of the Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Council, National Pan-hellenic Council, and the Multicultural Greek Council.

The week started with “Movie and Marvins” on Sunday night in the Theta Gardens, which is located in the courtyard of the Green Center of the Performing Arts (GCPA). Everyone was encouraged to bring a canned good item and an empty stomach. What could be better than watching 22 Jump Street while holding a GCB with your fellow Greek community?

The Greek Fair and Penny War took place on Monday in Bowman Park. This was a time for first-years to see what DePauw’s Greek community has to offer and for fellow Greeks to be together. Each chapter had their own table that they decorated with information they deemed important for others to know about their chapter. They also had a jar available at each table for the Penny War. The goal for this activity was to collect as many pennies and the least amount of silver coins in your jar as possible. The money that was raised went to the winning chapter’s philanthropy. There was also free Dairy Castle ice-cream sandwiches that turned out to be a huge hit!

Tuesday was Greek Intramural night! All members of the DePauw community were encouraged to participate in different activities such as volleyball, football, and tug-of-war/limbo.  Chapters and participants were grouped together to form teams that battled till the end!

Wednesday was “Canstructures” night, which took place in Bowman Park. Chapters and participants were once again grouped together to form four even teams. Each team was allowed five students to be “runners” that would go collect the cans that were scattered around Bowman Park. The rest of the participants used the cans that they brought back to make some kind of structure!

Thursday night was the All Greek Talent Show! Contestants were encouraged to show the community what they are made of.

The week finished off with the Unity Step Show, which once again consisted of all of the Greek Councils being grouped together to form teams. There was some major stomping and stepping going on at this event!

Overall the week was full of fun lighthearted activities that showed DePauw’s Greek Unity on campus.
