Keeping the Poundage Off and the Grades Up

Elizabeth Dewart

Unfortunately, post Thanksgiving Break marks that dreaded point in the semester—FINALS.  It’s that time of year when filled-to-the-brim L.L. Bean backpacks replace our stylish Longchamp totes. ‘Tis the season of all-nighters, coffee by the gallon, and sleepovers at Roy O.

But, what is the hardest part about surviving finals?  Resisting the temptation to dial Marvin’s for a greasy GCB and mac-bites.  We’ve all heard the, “There’s-No-Such-Thing-As-Calories-During-Finals-Week” myth…but let me tell you—there are.

So, what’s a girl to do?  How are you supposed to keep your energy up and your cravings down?  Follow these simple tips and your jeans will thank me come Winter Break.

  • Drink Water!

Drinking eight glasses of water a day can keep you full and energized!  And, if you drink ice-cold water, your body burns more calories by normalizing the temperature to digest!

  • Exercise!

Instead of taking a 30-minute television time-out, go to Lilly!  Exercising just 30 minutes a day has proven to give you more energy, lower food cravings, and put you in a better mood!  What a perfect study break!

  • Drink Green Tea!

Green Tea boosts metabolism!  Switch up your caffeine schedule with green tea and you’ll gain tons of anti-oxidants that will not only keep you studying longer, but will also make your skin look great!

  • Sleep for at least 6 Hours!

Did you know, if you get less than six hours of sleep you’re lowering your metabolism by 15%?!  All-nighters might seem like a good idea at the time, but you’re only harming your body for the stressful days to come!

  • Smart Snacking!

Make sure you’re eating healthy!  All natural foods actually give you energy—shocking I know!  Some great snack ideas are pretzels, popcorn, Wheat Thins, almonds, low-fat yogurt, fruit and vegetables!

If you can ace these easy tips, you’ll see A+’s in no time!  And, you’re body will thank you.
