“I woke up like this”: How to Look Good for your 8am

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePauw chapter.

Remember when you thought signing up for that 8 AM class was going to help you be more productive? Or when you thought signing up for a 7 AM cycling class would be fun? Early morning classes and activities seem like a good idea… until you notice those bags under your eyes.

Waking up early can really take its toll, but no one wants to look as tired as they feel! I decided to share some of my tips and tricks for looking awake, no matter how early it is. And to prove it, I took pictures of myself going through the steps before my radio show at WGRE that starts at 4 AM. Going through this little routine took only 6 minutes and made me feel so much better about being awake so early!

To get rid of any under eye circles or dark spots, swipe a concealer near the lower corner of the eyes. I’m using Maybelline’s Fit Me Concealer . Blend this out, but don’t get too close to the eyes. Concealer too close will crease, highlighting any dark circles. Next, put concealer put concealer in between the brows, extending upwards, on the bottom of the chin, on the sides of the nose, and on the sides of the eyes (like in the picture). This will get rid of redness in areas that are prone to it, and will brighten the center of the face, making you look more radiant.

After your skin, your tired eyes are usually the sign of that all-nighter you pulled studying for that test, so start with a coat of black lengthening mascara on the top and bottom lashes, I used Buxom lash from Sephora (http://www.sephora.com/buxom-lash-mascara-P228204). Even if you have light eyelashes like me, use a black mascara instead of brown to make the whites of your eyes look whiter and more awake.

To brighten the eyes more, Take a skin tone eyeliner, like the Rimmel Scandaleyes in nude (http://us.rimmellondon.com/products/eyes/scandaleyes-waterproof-kohl-kajal), and line your lower waterline. This will eliminate any redness and open up the eyes, making them look bigger. If you your eyes need more definition, take a black waterproof eyeliner, like Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-on  eyeliner in zero (http://www.urbandecay.com/24-7-glide-on-eye-pencil/122.html), and line your tight line as shown. Try to avoid getting liner on your eyelid, as it will make the space of the lid look smaller. Roll the pencil between the lashes and on the top inner rim to make eyes look more defined without making them look smaller.

Finish up with some bronzer on the high points of the cheeks and forehead to give you a healthy glow and you’re done with makeup. As a last little quick tip, remember that beige and gray don’t provide much contrast, making your skin look more dull. Always go for a color that contrasts with your skin tone to make your skin look glowing and fresh. And remember- if these tips aren’t enough to make you look awake- just go back to bed! You can always go to that early morning workout tomorrow.
