Let’s meet Blake Edwards, a sophomore from Western Springs, IL. On campus, she is a Management Fellows, part of the recruitment committee for Dance Marathon, a volunteer at RidPath Elementary School, Assistant to the VP of Housing at Pi Beta Phi and a member of the Sustainable Leadership Program.

One thing that Blake is very excited about is DePauw’s Conservation Challenge through the Sustainability Leadership Program. The program is supported by the Environmental Fellows Program and the Hubbard Center for Student Engagement.

Her Campus: Hey Blake! Thanks for taking the time to talk with us! Can you tell us more about the DePauw Conservation Challenge?

Blake Edwards: Absolutely! The DePauw Conservation Challenge is broken up into six groups. The Challenge started for South Quad on September 19th and goes until October 9th, and it will start after fall break for the Greek houses. We are going to monitor how much water and energy each house saves in two weeks, and whoever saves the most energy wins a prize! We are hoping to encourage people to take shorter showers or to make sure to turn the lights off. We really hope that this encourages students to see how much energy one can save with small actions.

HC: What inspired you to join the Sustainable Leadership Program?

BE: Coming into college, I didn’t know what I wanted to major in. Now, I am planning on double majoring in environmental geoscience and economics. I heard about the program from someone who graduated and helped start the program. It inspired me to spread the word on campus, and it has been an awesome experience!

HC: What are you most excited about with the conservation challenge?

BE: I am really excited to see how the students will react and how involved they get. I also hope that they will join the program! I am optimistic that everyone will get excited about saving energy!

HC: You rock! Thanks so much Blake!
