This week’s campus celebrity is Anna Davlin!  She’s only a freshman, but this girl is already involved in three major programs at DePauw and still maintains her bubbly personality that makes seeing her the highlight of anyone’s day!

Her Campus: Hey, Anna! So let’s start easy.  What’s your intended major/minor?

Campus Celebrity: My intended major is Economics with minors in Studio Art and Philosophy.

HC:  Awesome! You’re involved in three major programs at DePauw: Honor Scholar, Management Fellows, and Civic Fellows. Can you tell me a little bit about each one and why you’ve chosen to be a part of them all?

CC:  Yeah, of course! Honor Scholar is an interdisciplinary program that emphasizes discussion and research. I’m an Honor Scholar because it feels like the epitome of a liberal arts education. The seminars offered are topic-specific and combine many fields of study, which makes each class interesting. I love my freshman seminar, which I’m taking through the program. The people are great and so is the professor! Management Fellows is the business honor program, which I love being a part of as well. Through the program, I have been fortunate to attend various speakers and workshops geared toward developing interview, networking, and resume skills. These are invaluable and can’t be taught in a classroom, so I’d say I’m a part of Management Fellows to develop these skills. Civic Fellows is a service-based leadership program and each semester, members have to complete 30 hours of community service. Through Civic Fellows, I’m able to engage in the Greencastle community which I have totally loved. I am a student friend at Ridpath Elementary and also volunteer for JumpstART, an art program for children hosted on campus. We also do community service in Greencastle as an entire group. Civic fellows is a wonderful group of students, from all walks of life. It’s awesome to do meaningful volunteer work with such a diverse group of people. I’ve learned a lot so far from this program in particular.

HC:  That’s so impressive. Has it been hard for you to come in as a freshman and already have so much responsibility? Do you think it’s made your transition harder (or easier if that’s possible?)

CC:  Hmmm, good question. I’d say this much responsibility has definitely made me very busy, and I’ve had to adapt to keep up, but I love it. I think it’s made the transition easier because I always have something to do! It keeps my mind off of how much I miss my dogs, at least most of the time *laughs*.

HC: Being involved in all of those programs, would you say you’re stressed out all the time? What do you do to relax and have fun?

CC:  Thankfully I’m not stressed out all of the time, but I do have moments. But as humans we all have those moments. Luckily, I’ve found a great group of friends who always encourage me! I’ve always been interested in art, so painting, drawing, and taking pictures is how I relax. People who know me well know how obnoxious I am about taking pictures of our gorgeous campus sunsets. I’m in Intro to Sculpture right now, which is a great outlet to relieve stress and allow my creativity to shine.

HC: Love that!  Now the big question: what do you want to do with your life?

CC: This is the question of the century for all people our age, right? To be honest, I don’t know yet. But ideally, I would hold a creative position in the business world. I also really enjoy debate and politics, so I could see myself leading a life of service in the law area. Who knows! Hopefully I’ll have a better answer for you in 3.5 years!

HC:  Maybe we can do a follow-up interview in a few years. As we wrap up, is there anything else we should know about you?

CC: Just that I am thankful and humbled that you interviewed me!

HC:  You’re so sweet. Anytime, girl. Thanks for being a part of HC Campus Celebrity!
