Tonight Alive: Limitless

Move over Gwen and Hayley, there is a new punk rock queen in town. She has been around for awhile, but is bound to skyrocket into the fame her talent so rightly deserves after the release of her band’s newest album.

Jenna McDougall is a 23 year old, free spirited, spunky firecracker that is the frontwoman for the band Tonight Alive hailing from Sydney Australia. They release their newest album Limitless friday March 4, 2016. I had the pleasure of purchasing this album ahead of time at their show Tuesday night at The Bottom Lounge.

This was the very first show of their spring US tour “The Fight For Something Tour” with comrades Set It Off, The Ready Set, and Say We Can Fly. The show blew me away. I have been to countless concerts in my lifetime, but very rarely do I have the pleasure of encountering such a phenomenal front(wo)man. Not only does she have the vocals to make even the greats of all time blush, but she has the presence to match. The energy she brings to the stage is magical, she exudes positivity and power. Some may see her as being a tad in your face, but hey, sometimes you have to be when you’re a woman in a male-dominated field. While she is this way, she is also so incredibly grateful for everything and enjoying every second of what she is doing.

But back to the new album. This album is unlike anything Tonight Alive has put out thus far. They have come leaps and bounds in shaping their sound and building a message to convey to their listeners. Musically, the album could not be better. There is great variation from song to song. You have your snarky quick witted songs such as “I Defy” but you also have your slower beautiful ballads such as “The Greatest” There is something on this album for everyone, and it has an overall message of the power each and everyone of us possess. Which is fitting, considering Jenna had the crowd chant back to her “I have a fucking say” in regards to what one does with their life.

Overall, I can guarantee that the world will know Jenna McDougall and her band Tonight Alive after this album release. Be sure to pick up a copy of the album, check out a show, and most of all believe in yourself and the “Power of One.”
