Coconut Oil to the Rescue

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePaul chapter.

While searching for heavy duty cream for the Sahara desert that had taken up residence on my skin, all of the lotions I found failed me and my thirsty face, legs and arms.

Thank you Chicago winters.

Right before I was about to give up and never show my flakey, itchy skin again, my wonderful, homeopathic roommate opened up the pantry. Little did I know that the cure to all of my beauty problems was something natural and affordable.

Let me introduce you to my new best friend, Coconut Oil.

Coconut Oil not only heals dry skin, but it can also solve several other problems that you might find yourself facing:

1. Acne: Coconut oil has been known to fight the bacteria that cause breakouts in the skin.

2. Cleanser: Have you heard the slogan oil attracts oil? Use Coconut Oil as an effective way to rid your skin of dirt and bacteria.

3. Sore Throat: Instead of gulping down foul tasting cough syrup let a spoonful of coconut oil melt in your mouth. The oil will coat and protect your throat as well as fight infections.

4. Cold Sore: Say goodbye to the ugly thing and rub on the antiviral oil.

5. Lubricant: This is one lube you don’t have to worry about. It’s all-natural and contains no chemicals.

6. Stys/Pink Eye: If you’ve made the mistake of sleeping in your makeup, a sty may have made a visit to your eye. Rub a small amount of oil on the sty and the infection will fade quickly.

7. Makeup Remover: Add a little bit of oil to a cotton ball and wipe your face clean

8. Conditioner: You can use it in your hair… and your dog’s!

9. Sunburn: Spring break is approaching… you might want to have some coconut oil on hand

10. Fitness: Coconut oil boosts metabolism, increases energy, and promotes healthy thyroid function.

11. Cooking: The natural oil is a healthier alternative to butter. Use it for any purpose!
