“As a survivor of cancer myself, I know the emotional and financial strain the diagnosis of cancer can put on a family- I believe that an individual does not battle cancer alone, his or her entire family does. That’s why we’ve designated this money to go directly to help families on the front lines.”
This is a statement from first baseman for the Chicago Cubs- Anthony Rizzo when he announced that the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation is making a 3.5 million dollar donation to make two endowed funds at the Lurie’s Childrens Hospital in Chicago.
The first of two endowment’s will be named the Hope 44 Endowed Fund, this will provide grants on a case by case basis for families that have a child being treated for cancer that are facing financial hardships during the difficult time.
The Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation Child Life Endowed fund is the second endowment created by Rizzo’s donation. It will provide ongoing support for two Child Life Oncology Specialists.
In April 2008 Rizzo was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma where he under went chemo for six months when he was then told he was in remission.
