Three Easy DIY Ways to Reduce Clutter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Denison chapter.
If your dorm room is looking a little worse for wear, these easy DIY crafts can help you do a little reorganizing. You can have your room looking better in no time!

1) Mason Jar Storage Containers

Mason jars are one of crafting’s best kept secrets. They can be used as candleholders, lamps, mini gardens, or as I’m telling you today, easy organizers.

All you need for this project is:
A couple mason jars, you can vary the sizes depending on what you plan on storing in them (Craft stores such as Michaels or Hobby Lobby sells them in various sizes)
Any decorating material that you want to use (Ribbon or glass paint both work well)

As I said before, this project is simple. All you do is decorate the mason jars in whatever way you desire! You can use them to organize your desk supplies, toiletries, make up, or anything else you can think of; and the best part is, you can always clean them off and redecorate them!

2) Simple Jewelry Organizer
It is very hard to find a way to keep your jewelry organized and untangled, especially in places like a dorm room where you have very little space to put a jewelry box. This simple jewelry organizer can help you tidy up your jewelry in no time!

All you need for this project is:
A small towel rack (size depends on where you want to put it, a hand towel rack would probably work best)
Shower curtain rings (the kind that are s-shaped work best for easy removal)

As I promised, this project is easy too! All you need to do is find a space to mount the towel rack and then organize your jewelry on the shower curtain rings and hang them on the rack. Voilà, an easy and quick way to keep your jewelry organized and tangle free!

3) Cute and Easy Candleholders
Although this last project is not an organization project, creating a little room décor can always make your room seem a little homier. Candles are an easy way to change the mood of a room, and with simple decorating as shown in the picture above, you can personalize your candleholders.

All you need for this project is:
Two glass cylinders, one small enough to fit in the bigger one and still have space around it
A candle to go in the smaller cylinder
Decorating material to go around the outside (in this example they use corks, but you can fill the outside with any decorating item that you want

This project is very simple to put together, just like our first two. All you need to do is put the candle inside the smaller cylinder, place that one in the middle of the bigger one, and then decorate around the outside in whatever manner you want!

With these simple DIY projects you can have your room looking and feeling better in no time! Hopefully you’ll give them a try! Let us know your favorite DIY dorm decorating craft or any tips you may have in the comment box!
