Drake – Boy Meets World Tour Concert Review

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DCU chapter.

When I found out Drake was bringing his Boy Meets World tour to the 3 arena on the 19th and 20th of February 2017 I was thrilled, from becoming such a big fan of his in the past two years I couldn’t wait to get my hands on tickets. I went with my boyfriend who is a hardcore fan and has seen him twice before so I knew we were in for a good time and let me tell you Drake did not disappoint.

From the lights to the staging, to the artist/audience relationship, Drake did what he does best and rocked the stage, crazy dance moves and all.

We chose standing rather than seating tickets as we wanted to be fully immersed in the atmosphere (to which did not disappoint) and the 3arena was the perfect space for the show itself as I felt as though if it had of been somewhere like Croke Park we would have had lost the more personal side to the artist himself who spent a lot of the night talking about his love for music and his fans. He even noted that the audience ‘was the craziest audience he had ever seen’ and I don’t doubt that, the Irish had the place on wheels, One Dance style.

Drake covered everything from old to new and made sure he got in all the fan favourites, like ‘One Dance’, ‘Too Good’ and ‘Jump man’. The set list was a perfect reflection of his artistry and really brought the show together. At times, he did not finish the song which is something I’m sure had to do with the timing of the show but could have been though through more as were all expecting the whole song.

The staging and set up of the show was incredible, hanging lights shaped like spheres/balls hung from the ceiling and were in correlation with each song by dropping up and down, changing colour and depicting what I would think looked like planets possibly. Tying into this a huge ball was blew up in the middle of the stage while smoke emerged through the audience, the ball depicted the moon and it was amazing. Drake sang around the moon for the last couple of songs and it really got the crowd going. Fire went off after almost every beat drop and it really put an extra power to the music. Lighting and staging was extremely effective for this show and the young audience really appreciated those effects, including myself who was blown away by the sheer beauty of the lights.

The crowd loved every minute of Drakes an hour and a half performance, he even brought a young girl up on the stage who had been crying with excitement all night. He showed a side of himself that personally for me not a lot of artists do on stage. I have been to many concerts in the past 6 months and let me tell you this, Drakes Boy Meets World Tour, was in fact out of this world. So out of this world that we were all there with him on the moon, with our hands in the sky and our hearts in the music.
