What’s Up with Fall Fling?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Davidson chapter.

This year the Union Board and SGA are cosponsoring the first annual fall formal for the entire school: Fall Fling!  Happening over Homecoming Weekend, the event promises to be a highlight of the semester and bring more of a school spirit vibe to the festivities of Homecoming. Best part?  It is completely FREE!

After hearing from students that there was interest in a schoolwide fall semester event, Summer Abiad, senior class president, and others on the Union Board and Student Government Association decided to create this exciting addition to the Davidson Calendar.  “It will be a night where we can have school unity, spirit, and fun as one big social community. We have Winterfest and Frolics in the spring semester but have had no big huge event for the school in the fall semester until now. It’s been an idea in the works to have a big social event for everyone both by Union Board and the SGA for years and we are excited to have it come to fruition.”

Fall Fling will have live music from student bands, a huge dance floor, lawn games, plenty of fancy finger foods, and alcoholic/non-alcoholic drinks.  This event is especially exciting because it is one of the few formals available for non-PCC-affiliated students, and it’s an opportunity for freshmen who have not had the chance to join an organization yet to participate in a formal event.  One of the unique aspects of this formal is that young alumni are encouraged to attend. This is hopefully a draw for them when deciding if they are going to return to campus for Homecoming Weekend.  The event will also feature student performers, including Catfish Disco and student DJs (Luki Elizalde and Shassata Fahim).  Molly Mathes, Union Board President, says about the event, “We are so excited to bring a new tradition to the Davidson community, especially since a campus-wide fall event has been in discussion for several years. We wanted to differentiate it from larger events like Winterfest and Frolics, and so the idea for a free and inclusive formal was born! We can’t wait to see students and young alumni come together under a massive white tent and beautiful string lights for a night of music, dancing, and fun!”

The event occurs this Saturday (October 1st) from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on the Old Tennis Court Lawn, a location chosen because of successful reunion weekend events held there over the summer.

A cash bar will be open for those 21+ with a valid state-issued ID (and CatCard for current students), and each person is allowed one guest (w/ID).  CatCards must be shown to enter the event’s tent.
