Hunger Games, Davidson Style

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Davidson chapter.

From November 21 onward, legions of Hunger Games fans have trekked to movie theaters around the country to see the first installment of Mockingjay. For two hours, audiences live in the world of Capitol fashion and rebel style. And then, the lights turn on and everyone goes back to work, writing that composition and researching that end of term project. The withdrawal will be painful, but here’s something to think about to get you through until next November: what would your favorite Hunger Games characters wear if they were eating at Commons or trekking up the hill like the rest of us Davidson students?

Katniss Everdeen

Obviously, the “Girl on Fire” would wear a leather jacket to class. An update on her signature hairstyle, this crown braid looks delicate, but if the wear and tear in her jeans is any indication, this girl isn’t one to mess with.

Primrose Everdeen

As Katniss’s younger sister, Prim has a reputation for being innocent. Who wouldn’t volunteer for a girl with such a sweet outfit? She’s got the school girl, cool girl thing down pat. But there’s just enough rebellion in her shoe choice that it won’t surprise us when she shows us her strength in the final book.

Effie Trinket

The unchallenged trendsetter on campus, Effie Trinket lives by her mantra “go bold, or go home.” This outfit might seem understated for Katniss’s larger-than-life escort, but think about it—have you ever seen a girl wear a hat like this to class? The combination of such disparate notions: prim pinstripe and relaxed kimono, have the Trinket touch.

Johanna Mason

Even if it’s 20 degrees when she goes down the hill on the weekend, Johanna is going to show of her amazing body with something tight, revealing, or both. It probably wouldn’t surprise anyone if she embraced the walk of shame and wore this jumpsuit under a denim jacket to class Friday morning after her Thursday night revelries.

Caesar Flickerman

Does his sports team have a game today? Is he pledging a fraternity? Why is he wearing a suit to class?! Such is the enigma of Caesar Flickerman. But we all love him despite his allegiance to the Capitol, because, hey, he’s funny. And he can rock floral.

Finnick Odair

He has the body of a god, so it’s no surprise that he’s always dressed like he just came from the gym. It’s also no surprise that he doesn’t work out in an old t-shirt and basketball shorts. Only the fanciest athletic wear for this campus cutie.

Gale Hawthorne

Gale is the quiet guy in class who seems to have everything together (look at that impeccably put together ensemble!) but isn’t flashy about it. If you ask him for help on your calc homework, you’re sure to get a killer smile and a new tutor. It might look like Gale spends all of his time with DO, but you’re just as likely to see him in the library being studious.

Peeta Mellark

He’s he golden boy. When he holds the door to Union open for you, you can tell that his letterman jacket covers some pretty impressive guns. Too bad he puts up his hoodie as he crosses campus. You never expect the shy ones…

Cinna

This guy is definitely going to make it onto Style at Davidson.  Every day.  The fact that he can balance feminine and masculine elements in his style means that he could probably show you a thing or too about your own wardrobe.  New BFF?

If only we lived in a world where we could dance with Finnick at court parties and go on DO trips with Katniss.

Happy Hunger Games!

With my pale skin and curly hair, it might look like I spend all of my days in the library--which I totally could because I LOVE to read--but I promise I don't. I am an avid subscriber to Vogue, Lucky, and InStyle (you can infer my passion for shopping from that, right?). When I can't find what I want on the racks, I'll sew it myself. Elizabeth Taylor, Gregory Peck, Ingrid Bergman, Audrey Hepburn, and Grace Kelly are my style icons, not to mention stars in some of my favorite classic movies.
