Now that our next president has been elected and the dust has settled, it seemed only fitting to feature him this week in order for us to get to know the future president. Here are a few facts and a few of is positions that we believed were essential to get know Mr. Trump.
Name: Donald John Trump
Hometown: Queens, New York
Age: 69
Political Party: Republican
Career History: He has been chairman and president of Trump Industries since
1971. Trump was also the host of the reality TV show, “The Apprentice.”
Family: Trump has been married to his current wife Melania since 2005 and
together they have one child named Barron. He has four children from his two
previous marriages, Donald Jr., Eric, Ivanka, and Tiffany.
Where He Stands on the Issues:
Gun Control: Trump believes that the ability to obtain a concealed weapons permit
should be available throughout all fifty states. He is opposed to the idea of
establishing more increased gun control measures. As well as, he is against banning
the use of assault weapons. Trump has all intentions of protecting the Second
Amendment rights of all American citizens.
Health Care: Trump has openly expressed his desire to repeal Obamacare and hope
to replace it with something better. He believes that individuals should be able
deduct insurance premiums from their tax returns. Trump also wants to eliminate
the individual mandate that requires everyone to keep a minimum coverage.
Climate Change: Trump does not believe that climate change is something to be of
concern. He holds the belief that climate change is real, despite the scientific
evidence presented to him. He also wants to dismantle the Paris Agreement, which
is a global wide agreement within the United Nation focused on the issue of climate
change. Trump does however believe that clean water is essential and necessary for
future generation, making it an important issue for him. He has not announced any
positions for conservation plans for the future.
Immigration: Trump has all intentions to deport the all of the undocumented
immigrates within the United States. He has proposed the plan of building a wall
along the U.S.-Mexican border, with the hopes of Mexico paying for it. He has taken a
tough stance on illegal immigration and pledges to enforce immigration laws to
their fullest extent.
Abortion: Trump holds a strong position against women having the right to obtain
an abortion. He even went as far as to say the Doctor that performs the abortion on a
woman should be punished. He does not support keeping abortion legal, except
during cases of rape and for the interest of the mother. Trump also believes that the
government should not fund abortions.
LGBTQ Rights: Trump has openly expressed his disapproval for same-sex marriage.
He believes that the states should be in control of same-sex marriage laws. However,
he does believe that transgender individuals should be allowed to use the restroom
that correlates to their specified gender. He has claimed that he will do everything in
his power to protect the rights of LGBTQ individuals and has chose to embrace their
rights.
