How to Style a Duster

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CWU chapter.

Jackets are my thing. Whether it’s a bomber, a utility jacket, or a moto-style jacket, layering a third piece to my easy t-shirt and jeans combo elevates the simple pair into an outfit. When I first saw this duster trend come on the runway a few seasons ago, I jumped onboard as quickly right away. I went for a camel-colored, sleeveless option that I could easily pair with all of my outfits. (Coincidentally, my coworker and I wore the same piece on the same day at work… oops!) Whether your style is girly, edgy, or you’re more of the athleisure type like me, the compliments will start pouring in once you add one to your closet!

As a cousin of the traditional trench coat, the duster is breezy, while structured. Pair it witha sneakers and dark denim (my personal favorite) or over the top of a turtle or mocneck sweater with a pair of winter appropriate booties, this piece has the ability to elevate any outfit and makes it stylish. Even celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Cara Delevingne are sporting this trend lately. But as college students, odds are $2800 would be going towards tuition and not the same Balmain piece as Kenny, but luckily stores like ASOS, Zara, and Forever 21 are coming out with the similar styles, just cheaper! Happy shopping!
