This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CWU chapter.

Bailee Nichole Wicks, originally from Fife, WA and a sophomore here at CWU. She is the sassiest, funniest, and most motivated girl you will ever meet! She had considered other school such as the University of Oregon, but once she visited Central, Bailee knew she could see herself spending her collegiate career here.

You may have seen her enjoying work at the Wildcat Shop. There she works as the Social Media Coordinator. While usually taking 18 credits, being a part of the Douglas Honors College, and working as the assistant editor for Pulse magazine, she still manages to have a social life. Being involved in all of this I asked myself, “Girl, when do you have time for sleep?”  Bailee says she, “really enjoys working with social media and marketing because it is another side of the communication department that [she does not] get to focus on with [a] journalism degree.”

“Pulse is the greatest opportunity that I have stumbled upon in college. My freshman year I took a DHC class with Jennifer Green who is the advisor for Pulse and she invited me to come and sit in on the class. I went in and since winter quarter of 2015, I have been writing for Pulse. It’s amazing for my future career, but I also think it’s a ton of fun and doesn’t feel like work.”

As a Digital Journalism major, with a specialization is Print Writing, Bailee has to complete an internship. She was recently accepted by a internship program with Disney World. She did not think she would make the cut of working with such a big company, but I knew she could it with all the hard work she has put worth in becoming a great student.

“I am interning with Disney World through the Disney College Program and Disney Professional   Internship Program in the Fall of 2017. I will be living in Florida starting August 21st, 2017 and will be coming back to CWU January 4th 2018. I am going to be working primarily in a store at one of the parks and I will help out with their social media and blogging as well. I’m so excited to be working for such a well-known company. It’s a Fortune 500 company and is one of the top 5 media conglomerates in the world, plus I’m just a huge Disney fan.”

After her time at Central, Bailee plans, “to take [her] degree and continue writing for magazines or similar publications.” She makes note that there are, “many well-known magazines or media companies located in California or in New York.” Bailee see’s herself moving to one of those states in order to continue her writing career. She is alson considering the idea of writing for a travel blog after graduation. This would allow her to travel the world, which is something she has always wanted to do. Bailee mentions, “I am a huge Greek mythology nerd [and] my heritage is 100% Western European.” She hopes that by getting a job that allows her to travel and explore the world, she will be able to investigate her genealogy.

“Another point I would like to make is I love to write. I’m a journalism major because I could see myself waking up every day in the future and loving my job and getting excited to go to work. I want to pursue this industry because I want to make a difference and I want to be doing what I love. It also helps that I’m good at it too.”

As well as being an awesome student, she has a wide variety of interests and hobbies. These include “reading, writing, singing, 4- wheeling, jet skiing, paddle boarding, hanging out with friends, listening to music, shopping, watching the food network, cooking and obviously having out around a bonfire making s’mores.” Bailee has a full and fun life that allows her to complete her school and activities, while also allowing her to do the things she loves.

‘”My favorite quote is “My life is just a series of awkward and humiliating moments separated by snacks” because it’s probably the most valid statement about my current state of being a college student.”‘

With her internship coming up and so many exciting things happening in Bailee’s life, it was great to interview her. She is very motivated and ambitious in every aspect of her life and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for her.

Keep up with Bailee through her time at CWU and her internship with Disney:
