Self care is something that people (including myself) do not take seriously enough. The truth is, if we all practiced self care on a daily basis, there would be a lot less stress and a lot more smiles. Don’t know how to start practicing self care? I added some tips below for you to try!

  1. Get Enough Sleep
    1. Try and get 6-8 hours a night. If there comes a point where you get less than that, then go to bed early the next day.
  2. Eat Healthy foods
    1. I love popcorn and ice cream just as much as my roommate. But we both know that in order to feel healthy, you have to be eat the healthy stuff too.  PS: Halo Top ice cream is healthy and delicious!
  3. Spend Time With Friends
    1. Your friends are the ones who can understand the amount of stress or pressure you might be under because they are right there with you. Lean on them! Don’t push them away when you can use them to make yourself smile or just not feel alone.
  4. Schedule Me Time Everyday
    1. Take five minutes everyday to sit with yourself and just be in the moment.
  5. Find An Outlet To Express Yourself
    1. Try singing, painting, journaling etc.
  6. Create A Wind Down Ritual Every Night
    1. Listen to music, read a book, light a candle!
  7. Organize Your Time
    1. Planners and calendars are your friend! Use them!
After living in 3 different countries including 3 different states in the USA, it is no surprise that Roisin Gibbons decided to come to the nation's capitol to pursue a career in Social Work at CUA. Whil she did run away to Australia, her love for DC and the HC family brought her back home. Now a semester away from her senior year, Roisin is a HerCampus CUA writer, Co-President of CSWNA, Active Minds Fundraising Chair, and Marketing Chair for NRHH. Along with that, her own blog and volunteer experiences, she finds time to be a fashionista, singer, adventurer, and model for GUS Vintage Goods in California over school breaks.
