My Experience at the Women’s March

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CUA chapter.

Last weekend, I had the privelege to expierence one of the most influential marches in the 21st century. The Women’s March was about women of all races, sexualities and religious backgrounds coming together to raise awareness for Women’s rights not only in the United States but all over the world. We raised our voices for reproductive rights, legal rights, equal pay, immigration rights, religious rights and so much more. It was a very overwhelming expierence seeing so many women, men and children all marching together for one important cause: equal rights. Especially at a time now where our newly elected president is passing laws like the anti-abortion act and defunding Planned Parenthood, this march was very important for us as a society to speak up about the injustices THAT ALL women face. At first I was very nervous to attened the march because I thought it was not going to include proper representation of intersectional feminism, rather solely white feminism. But, I decided to take a chance because I thought to myself “When will I ever have another oppurtunity to expierence something as important as this?”

Of course, I saw some instances of those things, but overall it was really beautiful seeing all kinds of women being represented throughout the march. This was an amazing eye opening expeirence for me,and it was the first protest I had ever taken part in, nonetheless a very historic one. It just keeps reminding me that I need to speak up for women’s right and to educate people on the many issues women all over the world face.
