The Sun and Her Flowers Most Relevant Quotes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CU Boulder chapter.

Let me start off by saying that Rupi Kaur is amazing and I believe that every college woman should read her work. Many of you may be familiar with her book Milk and Honey, and if you absolutely loved it like I did guess what, there’s another book! Her most recent book The sun and her flowers is a must read, but I won’t spoil the book for you. Instead, here is a little preview of a few quotes that I find relevant to life as a college woman.

I wonder if I am

beautiful enough for you

or if I am beautiful at all

Lack of self-confidence: an issue that many women struggle with. There are so many pressures out there that make women feel as if they are anything but beautiful. But that’s not the case. You may have heard this so many times, but it’s true, everyone is beautiful in their own way. Tell yourself, you are beautiful enough, and if someone is too blind to see that then you do not need them in your life.

rise

said the moon

and the new day came

the show must go on said the sun

life does not stop for anybody

Life does not stop for anyone. Everyone is always going through something. There are times when we all wish we could just press the pause button so that we can really process what is going on around us. Although that may not be an option, taking a deep breath in and taking the time to mentally and emotionally prepare is an option. So, take some time for yourself, go get yourself a tub of ice cream, watch some friends, and before you know it you’ll be up on your feet and back at it.

Why are you so unkind to me

My body cries

Cause you don’t look like them

I tell her

Love your body, love yourself. As a college woman, it is hard to see all of the beautiful girls who get praised on social media and not envy that. Your body is beautiful just the way it is. And if that is still not enough to convince you to love your body then practice healthy ways of earning a body that you love and embrace. Go to the gym, detox, try on a face mask. These are all ways of positive self-improvement.

the sun can’t stop the storm from coming

Long story short, shit happens, and it happens to everyone. Life isn’t always going to go your way. There are going to be times where life throws obstacles and challenged your way and it is up to you to make it past them. Try and handle these turning points with optimism and positivity and you will see the light at the end of the tunnel before you know it.

you do not just wake up and become a butterfly

everything takes time. Whether its learning how to do a new skill or working towards your dream bod, it’s going to be some time before you get there. So don’t give up just because you do not see immediate results. Enjoy the journey and you will reach your destination before you know it.

stop looking up at everything you don’t have

and look around at everything you do

This one really simple. Stop worrying about what you don’t have and start appreciating what you do. Life is better when you find a way to cope with what you have instead of dwelling on what you don’t have.

be tender and tough at once

you need to be vulnerable to live fully

but rough enough to survive it all

Allow yourself to be vulnerable, it’s amazing to see how much you can grow when you step outside of your comfort zone. But don’t be naive, not everything in life is pure and good. There is bad out in the world, but it is up to you to defend yourself and fight off the bad.

I hope didn’t completely spoil the book for you and you still take the time to read it. It really is a must read and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
