Get Active this Winter! 7 Things to do in the Boulder Area

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CU Boulder chapter.

FEB 25: Powder and Porters Brew Run

Now I know what you’re thinking. “Running?? In the WINTER??? I can’t even get myself to run in nice weather!” And believe me, I understand completely. But this easy 4.5-mile course is not only beautiful—winding along the base of Bergen Peak through open fields as well as forest—but there’s also hot chocolate, some fine Evergreen Brew, and homemade chili to encourage you to cross the finish line. Find out more about it here.

MARCH 17: 7.7k Erin Go Braugh

Skip the old ‘Kegs N Eggs’ this St. Patty’s day and mix up your pregame with a little jog around Westminster’s Promenade Terrace! All racers are greeted at the end with all-you-can-eat Lucky Charms, and those who are 21 and older receive a free beer; as well as getting to enjoy a Beer After Party at Twenty Brew Tap House. Racers also receive an exclusive pint glass—talk about Luck ‘O the Irish! Get all your registration info here, and get excited about that endless pot of Lucky Charms.

MARCH 24: Run for Beer

Yes, another beer run. But, if you’re like me, and love craft brew but hate any sort of physical activity, burning off those calories before enjoying some cold suds is a win-win. Sponsored by Oskar Blues Boulder Taproom, this 5k(ish) course starts and ends at the new taproom right on Pearl Street. Easy, fun, and local, this race offers a free pint glass upon completion, and, of course, some delicious craft beer. Bring a friend and use running as your excuse to check out this awesome new spot, sign-ups are here.

MARCH 31: Running Up for Air

Ok, not another activity based around beer, but instead one to help save the environment! Which is just as good… right? But in all seriousness, this race is designed to bring attention to the poor air quality during the winter months. Those who choose to participate must get pledges for the laps they will run up a mountain for increments of 3, 6, or 12 hours. The goal is to help Conservation CO in raising money to support clean air. Although there’s no “prize” at the end of this one, what’s a better gift than helping our Earth.

APRIL 10: Dash & Dine 5k

Ah yes, something physically exerting that’s also designed around food! This springtime race is a six-part series, with each race taking place Tuesday nights in April and May at the beautiful Boulder Reservoir. At the end of each race, participants are able to take part in a post-race dinner, awards ceremony, and raffles prizes from various sponsors. The bonus? It also qualifies you for the Bolder Boulder 10k! Find out how you can score a spot for six free dinners here.

APRIL 7: Longmont CollaBEERaton 5k and Brew Fest

Yes! Finally! Another activity where you can get free beer! What a better way to celebrate National Beer Day (yes, it’s a thing; and yes, of course I know about it) than to run a fast, easy, (and FLAT!!!) 5k beginning at the St. Vrain Greenway at Left Hand Brewing, winding under Sunset Blvd and over to Roger’s Cove. Enjoy a beer (or marg!) at the finish at Shoes & Brews, complete with live music. Sign up and get drinking!

APRIL 21: National Park Week

For one week in April, National Park Service teams up with the National Park Foundation to host National Park Week. This fun filled week will happen this year from April 21 through 29! Parks all across the country will be holding special programs and events for this exciting week. Find your park and what activities it’s hosting here, and prepare to be amazed at the wonderful world around us!
