Hello Again, Miss American Pie!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cornell chapter.

Scroll down for information on attending the FREE screening of AMERICAN REUNION at CORNELL CINEMA!

As children of the 90s we are finally somewhat old enough to be nostalgic without getting laughed at. One of my fondest memories of that awkward decade is the movie American Pie. I remember watching it at sleepovers and giggling when a naked girl came up on the screen (probably every other 5 minutes). Or, thinking how cool you were that you know all the words to the song even though you had no clue what a “levee” was.

If the 90’s nostalgia drinks specials at CTB aren’t cutting it for you guys, get ready for some serious nostalgiaAmerican Reunion. The premise is pretty standard: a high school reunion after everyone has moved on into the real world (something I am thoroughly trying to avoid) but this time the actors really have aged – thirteen years! It really made me think about how much has happened since those sleepovers. We certainly have changed since 1999 – grew taller, learned that chokers are not okay and hopefully lost the braces. Who knew we would end up going to Cornell like Vicky? Or that Tara Reid would be getting married/not married to random European business men?

This is the magic of the movies. Your favorite fictional friends will still be there no matter what. I love that every one of the cast members is back in, including those we didn’t see in American Wedding ( I haven’t seen Tara Reid in years). Although I would like to note it remains a mystery how Jason Biggs manages to look EXACTLY the same after all these years, this final installment feels like it’s the real deal – what it would be like to reunite thirteen years later with your best friends from high school good changes and bad ( the real-time aging does help).

But how can you handle waiting until April to see the movie you ask?

Here’s the good news!

Universal Pictures CampusU will be hosting a totally FREE screening of American Reunion at Cornell Cinemas on April 4, 9pm at Willard Straight Hall ( get your tickets at the box office – they’re free!!) Don’t forget to check out the Facebook page to take part in the Reunion photobooth. It isn’t the time to be camera shy- flaunt your tans!

Speaking of tans, now that you are conveniently free from your Spring Break crash diets here is a cute recipe for apple pie in a microwave ( adapted from Hungry Girl) I recommend cheating with some ice cream from Insomnia Cookies since a la mode makes everything better. See you at the reunion! (heh, heh)

Ingredients
1 medium Fuji apple, cored and cut into 1/2-inch cubes
12 – 15 pieces Red Hots Cinnamon Flavored Candy
1/2 sheet (2 crackers) low-fat cinnamon graham crackers
2 tbsp. Fat Free Reddi-wip (or more!)
Dash cinnamon
Directions

Put apple cubes in a microwavable cup or mug. Top with Red Hots — the more you use, the hotter your pie in a mug will be! Cover and microwave for 2 minutes. Stir well. Re-cover and microwave for an additional 1 – 2 minutes, until apple cubes are soft.

Meanwhile, place graham crackers in a plastic bag and thoroughly crush through the bag; set aside.

Once cup or mug is cool enough to handle, mix contents well. Allow to cool for about 10 minutes.

Top with most of the crushed graham crackers followed by the whipped topping. (Use a double serving, if you like!)

Sprinkle with cinnamon and remaining crushed grahams. Voila!
