Headin’ Down to South

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Conn Coll chapter.

Check out our spotlight on South campus! Between academic buildings, Tempel Green, and four dorm buildings, there is a lot of ground to cover down South!

Residence Life:

Freeman, Jane Adams, Harkness, and Knowlton all make up the South community. Not only are the buildings some of the oldest buildings on campus, but also they come with amazing views of Tempel Green and the Long Island Sound! Freeman and JA have the luxury of not only one but two very home-y feeling dinning halls (can’t forget soup and bread on Tuesdays and Thursdays!). Harkness, besides easy access to Ruane’s Den, also has the best view of Tempel Green. Ruane’s Den is a great spot to watch sports like soccer or Football Sundays that are organized by Conn students. Knowlton, our language house on campus, is known for its regal-esque ambiance with a large split staircase, wooden floors, and rooms that are some of the largest on campus.

Upcoming Events:

  • JA Think.Do.Lead. Pancake Breakfast (October 5)
  • Sunday Night Football in Freeman
  • Freeman Fridays

Study Spaces:

“No Pain. No Shain.” is starting to get a little more painful as schoolwork starts to kick in, but no worries there are plenty of alternatives in South for study spots. New London Hall is great at night and even better if you’re able to snatch a classroom all to yourself! Cummings is perfect for those moments when isolation is the only thing that will get that 10 page paper done! Ruane’s Den in Harkness is ‘the spot’ to be according to some of our fabulous House Fellows in South. It is the perfect atmosphere for relaxed and informal place to get work done too. Major plus, they serve delicious coffee and snacks! Even though the weather is turning, Tempel Green and Harkness patio are still great destinations to hang out or get work done during the day.

Come check out all the great spots and see what’s happening on campus in South!
