8 Life Lessons the Gilmore Girls Revival Taught Us

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Concordia CA chapter.

For the past nine years we’ve been contemplating the lessons found in the Gilmore Girls series. Now we finally have new ones to mull over!

1. Life is short so make use of the time you have with your loved ones

Lorelai shows us how important it is to frequently show our loved ones that we do in fact love them. These kind of emotional moments don’t happen like they do in the movies. There isn’t always a loving goodbye scene that pulls on your heart strings.

2. You don’t always need a plan in life

Rory shows us that sometimes you need to take your life into your own hands and throw caution to the wind. You don’t always know where your final destination will be.

3. Contrary to popular belief, some things don’t change

Luke still expresses his hatred for technology. Some people don’t change.

4. Your mom can be your best friend no matter how old you are

Lorelai and Rory show us that it doesn’t matter if you’re 10, 25 or 32, your mother can still be your best friend.

5. The art of letting go

Emily goes through her stages of grief and shows us how to let go of things that no longer bring us joy. She’s a queen rebuilding her empire.

6. You don’t have to do things like other people do

You don’t always have to stick to the status quo and do what other people your age are doing. Yeah maybe college is the ideal time for one night stands but there’s no rule saying you can’t have your first one at 32!

7. Sometimes things don’t happen the way you think they will

It isn’t always easy to let go. It can also be terrifying and stressful to be directionless. Rory’s rant in this scene is quite relatable.

8. And sometimes all you need is some perspective

You can meet up with an old friend and they give you some advice that sets you in a new direction. Sometimes you just need to have a few drinks with someone with an outside perspective
