Fall Styles: The Forever Fashionable FedoraBy November 18, 2011 - 4:54pm Anyone who knows me knows that I am inspired substantially by the pop culture and fashions of the 1980s. Take one scroll through the playlist on my iPod and you'll be flooded with all of the anthems of the time (Michael Jackson, Prince and Cyndi Lauper to name a few). From acid-washed denim, to Buddy Holly inspired large-framed glasses, neon-colored windbreakers and gargantuan sized "MC Hammer" pants--I love it all. Luckily for me, majority of those looks have come back full force. Maybe not as "cheesy" as they were once seen, but a bit more toned down and modern for the time. One look that I've taken a hold of--and refuse to let go of--is the classic fedora hat. READ MORE... |

Preparing Yourself for Chicago's WinterBy November 8, 2011 - 12:00pm So, it's inevitable, winter is quickly approaching. I've been trying to prepare myself for weeks now as the temperatures continue to drop, but there's just no escaping it. It's about to get really cold in the "Windy City" and I don't think any of us are ready for it. Since I am from the South myself, I find it especially hard to deal with the harsh wind on top of the ridiculous amounts of snow plus days of no sunlight (I'm not exaggerating--really!). But even people born and raised here still find it impossible to ever get used to arguably the worst winters ever. READ MORE |

Save Money While Savoring Your Meal: Dine with Savored.comBy September 8, 2011 - 4:54pm To savor, as Merriam-Webster explains, is to “taste (good food or drink) and enjoy it completely.” And what’s a bigger enjoyment-killer than an end of the meal check you need a payment plan to afford? Aside from a fly in your chardonnay (thank you, Alanis Morissette), nothing. However, with Savored.com, you can now save money while completely savoring your meal. READ MORE |

Four Years Later...By May 4, 2011 - 12:00am Who would have ever thought four years could go by so quickly? Well, for me, it has, and I can't believe how fast time has flown by. I'm graduating in less than two weeks, and I can't wait to finally be done with undergraduate school and be able to call myself an official Columbia College Chicago alumnus! It's been quite an amazing and incredible journey. I've met some amazing people along the way and grown apart from some people and lost a few friendships, too. But I understand it all happened for a reason. Of course I'm going to be searching for a job after I'm done with school, but I'm in no rush. I know I'll be able to find something up my alley. It'll all happen in good time. But right now, I'm going to enjoy having nothing to do and just relax! Cheers... |

Gender Fusions 7: The Super Queer-O SpectacleBy April 20, 2011 - 12:00am Last semester, I wrote a story for Columbia's Echo Magazine about people in the genderqueer community, and it turned out fantastic! It ended up as the cover story, and I was absolutely thrilled with the final product. More recently, during this past weekend, the coordinator at the office of LGBTQ Culture and Community for Columbia, K. Bradford, who was a huge help with finding people to talk to who identify as genderqueer, got in touch with me and invited me to Common Ground's seventh annual Gender Fusions event in the 618 S. Michigan Ave. Building. READ MORE |

"Housewives" Becoming Too DesperateBy April 13, 2011 - 12:00am “Desperate Housewives” is a perfect blend of dark comedy drama with a nighttime soap opera twist. “Aching for perfection, thirsty for blood, longing for truth, dying for love and hungry for revenge” perfectly describe this show. With secrets, romance and murder—all on one street—each new season and year bring new mysteries and more dark and twisted events to the lives of the people on Wisteria Lane. The show is now in its seventh season, after premiering on October 3, 2004, and has had tons of success and millions of viewers. However, “Housewives” seems to be selling itself short and may be living up to its cleverly developed title. READ MORE |

Lindsay Not Iconic Enough To Be Known Without LohanBy April 6, 2011 - 12:00am Hollywood movie and television stars used to be recognized for iconic portrayals of memorable characters, fierce fashion and looks and abilities to bring a film or TV show to life. These days, however, it seems like most actors and actresses are becoming more acknowledged for outrageous and inappropriate behaviors off the screen, such as getting arrested, public intoxication and feuds with other celebrities. Bye-Bye Spring Break, Hello GraduationBy March 30, 2011 - 12:00am I've been counting down the days until graduation since the spring 2011 semester began in January. It's been rough and it's been extremely busy, but we have seven more weeks go! I was more than excited for spring break last week and even more happy that I was going to be reunited with my best friend, godson and family back home. It was going to be a nice long mini vacation away from the stress of classes and work. READ MORE |

High Schools Should Permit Students to Leave for Lunch with Rules in PlaceBy March 30, 2011 - 12:00am High school years are far behind, but the memories can remain fresh in the mind—attending pep rallies, obeying strict rules, waking up at the crack of dawn, catching the bus, not being able to text in class, getting detentions and, more specifically, eating the awful cafeteria food served during lunch hours. Gaga's "Born This Way" Is Here To StayBy March 2, 2011 - 12:00am Lately, I've been hearing mixed opinions and reviews about Lady Gaga's new song “Born This Way.” Some say they like it, while others say it's just awful. I personally love it, and it's something we haven't heard from her before. A review I recently found, written by Annie Yuan, from HollywoodReporter.com, titled “Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ Criticized for Similarities to Madonna Songs” was a good piece and worked well, even though I personally didn’t agree with what she was saying in it.
