By Mariah Craddick
August 8, 2012 - 6:00am

Walgreens has always been my one stop shop for plenty of things. From shampoo to paper towels to snack foods, Walgreens is basically my key to survival during the school year. It wasn't until recently, however, that I realized how great of a selection of beauty products the store carries. And high-quality brands for affordable prices at that! READ MORE

Dear Columbia

By Songine' Clarke
May 4, 2012 - 10:22am

Dear Columbia, When I first stepped on your campus at the beginning of my sophomore year, I did not know what was in store for me. I honestly felt like Whitney Port (from "The Hills"/"The City") going to a different city, not knowing anyone, and pursuing my dreams. My three years here have been something. I’ve met people I never thought I would meet, made friends that I will never forget, became more of an art lover and grew up to be the person that I am today. READ MORE

Barbie has officially turned plastic. The Trinidad-born, Queens-raised MC Nicki Minaj recently released her music video to “Beez In The Trap (ft. 2 Chainz),” the newest single from her newest album “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded,” and is full-on blonde, breasty, booty and brainless. READ MORE

Summer Fests

By Katy Krantz
May 2, 2012 - 12:44pm

My summers used to consist of packing up two enormous duffel bags and heading off to my beloved overnight camp in northern Wisconsin for two months. I was barely home before school started again in the fall. However, 4 years ago, I ended my camping career and tried out summer life at home. At first, it was rough. I longed to be with the rest of my camp friends and felt like I was missing out on all of the amazing activities that one could partake in at camp. But slowly, each summer, it got easier to be at home during the summer months.  READ MORE

Inspiration from Mandela

By Sydney Holman

Recently, I’ve been reading “Long Walk to Freedom: The Autobiography of Nelson Mandela,” which is a phenomenal and eye-opening read.  It doesn’t invoke self-pity of any kind like one might think but helps readers to dissect the root of hate, racial tensions and a life many in this generation couldn't fathom.  READ MORE

HBM Productions

What I love about going to a school like Columbia is that it’s full of dreamers that dream big. Those dreamers are also determined to make their dreams come true. Prime examples of people like this are three film students: Jessica Estelle Huggins, Cameran Battley, and Candice Majors. Huggins, Battley and Majors started a production company in the fall of 2011 called HBM (using the first letter of each of their last names).  READ MORE

HC Music Review: “Reign of Terror,” Sleigh Bells, Mom + Pop Music 2012

By Emily Ornberg
April 26, 2012 - 9:20am

Though many have tried, it isn’t easy to capture the significantly vivacious and rebellious feeling of being a young adult. But Brooklyn dance-punk duo Sleigh Bells may have found the perfect formula to project the awkward-coolness that is adolescence: finding the essential flavors with their newest ear-shattering jam session, “Reign of Terror.” READ MORE

When the World Stopped Turning...

By Katy Krantz
April 25, 2012 - 6:00am

“Where were you when the world stopped turning?” Alan Jackson’s sullen song lyrics regarding the multiple terrorist attacks that bombarded our country on September 11th, 2001 always makes me think of where I was on that horrific day.  READ MORE

Hillary Clinton: A Girl's New Best Friend

By Sydney Holman
April 24, 2012 - 6:00am

Hillary Clinton is clearly the *ahem* "HBIC." Mrs. Clinton refused to play the "poor wife of a man who cheated on me with his intern" role. Instead, she handled the scandal with class and is now quite literally ruling the world. As Secretary of State under President Obama’s administration, she has imposed sanctions on Iran, condoned actions of heinous leaders in foreign countries and forged peace treaties.  Recently, we’ve seen the former Senator in a new laid back light that shows the extent of her humor.  READ MORE
