Kelly Chiavaro: Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Colgate chapter.

It seems that the women’s soccer team and their hard work throughout the past month of preseason is paying off. Sure, you can see it in the recent victories or on various stats sheets, but one of the main reasons for the team’s success stems from the variety of talent brought by each individual player. While every player brings their own special skillset to the field, one particular player has been widely acknowledged for her performance. Freshman goalkeeper, Kelly Chiavaro, has not only made crucial saves during several games, but has also been a part of helping the team through her constant communication and positivity.

Before playing at Colgate, Kelly was part of the National Training Center in Montreal for five years, as well as being part of the Quebec Provincial team. While playing for both teams, Kelly was able to represent her province in six National Championships. It seems as if this success followed her to Colgate, where she was recently named the ‘Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week’ twice in a row. When asked about this achievement, Kelly said, “I am really happy to have been chosen and to see that hard work can pay off. I definitely wouldn’t have received these awards without the help of my team though, and I am very grateful for all of the work they have put in.”

In regards to the Raider’s exciting win over LSU, Kelly said she had “no words” to describe her enthusiasm about the win. She said the win was a “great team effort and major accomplishment for the team,” and that she was “so proud to share the victory with her teammates.”

When asked about her expectations for the rest of the season, Kelly responded, “Considering how the beginning of our season has gone, I don’t think we can settle for anything less than a Patriot League Championship and a spot in the NCAA tournament!”

Please join us in following Kelly and the women’s soccer team as they carry their success with them throughout the rest of their season!  And come out to watch them play this Sunday as they on Patriot League rivals, Bucknell, at 1 p.m.!
