How Colgate Fights Back Against Cancer
Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States, accounting for nearly 1 of every 4 deaths. In 2012, about 577,190 Americans are expected to die of cancer. That is more than 1,500 people a day. After hearing these startling statistics I knew I had to participate in Colgate’s Relay For Life Event. We’ve all been affected by cancer in some shape or form so why not give back? Colgate’s Relay for Life Event is the perfect time to get involved and help others fight against the disease.
Relay for Life is an overnight event where teams of people camp out in the gym and take turns walking around the track for the duration of the event to help raise money for the American Cancer Society. There are currently 18 Colgate teams, all which are still looking for more members! The registration fee to sign up increases from $10 to $20 on Friday at 5 pm so try to sign up as soon as possible! If that’s not enough incentive, whoever raises $50 before Friday also receives a free t-shirt. It’s okay if you can’t even attend the event, just please support the cause by going online to donate. After doing so, you’ll see that giving back to such an important foundation is gratifying. And every dollar counts.
Not only attending Colgate, but also having our health is a significant privilege. While Cancer used to be a death sentence, these days treatments are getting increasingly more effective so your donation WILL help save lives.
Colgate’s Relay For Life Event takes place on February 24th at 5 pm in the Huntington Gym. Stop by at any time! To donate, simply go to http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?pg=entry&fr_id=40036 and under quick finder on the right click “Relay Teams” and you can choose to donate to any of the Colgate teams listed.
