On Wednesdays at Colby College, you might spot a lot of beautiful people looking dapper, especially the People of Color on campus.

“It’s a way for us as a group to come together to show ourselves to the community in a positive light, and by dressing well we stand out and we look good, and they (Colby) are going to love us because we’re colored and we’re sexy!”

As a spin off of the Mean Girls catch phrase “On Wednesdays we wear pink,” MOCA (Men of Color Alliance) has chosen a day where its club members dress well. It was created to combat the idea of “Dressing For Success.” It doesn’t necessarily have to represent success, but rather what you view as success.

It was also created to break the stereotypes of what People of Color are perceived to wear in society, and how they can acclimate to the Corporate World. It also encourages the Men of Color to experience the campus in a professional manner. Whether you’re an athlete, activist, leader, student, or artist, you can still look good and feel powerful by simply dressing well. When Wednesdays come around, it’s always an exciting day to bring out that nice button up shirt or colorful bow tie you’ve been wanting to wear.

This trend has also been adopted by some of the Women of Color on campus.

“Whenever I choose to well dress on Wednesday, it’s just nice to do it, because sometimes the ladies need to dress well, not just the guys.”

I'm really into colors, so I'm usually wearing something bright, I don't think I'm that hard to miss. I'm really excited to start writing for HerCampus, I hope my articles are as helpful to you as they are for me!
