We know it’s hard to shop for your friends especially on a college budget so we have a few ideas for you. The first is to organize a big Secret Santa with a bunch of your friends. This way you’re not hurting anyone’s feelings by only buying some friends presents and you only need to actually buy one present! Make it a fun event by making it an ugly sweater party and serving cheap wine and cookies and don’t forget to set a maximum price. READ MORE |

How To...Pace Yourself This ThanksgivingBy November 22, 2011 - 2:00pm Thanksgiving is a time to come together with family, be thankful, and eat delicious food. While it is a wonderful time and one of my personal favorite holidays, it can cause stress for those who are cooking as well as eating. If you’re anything like me it’s hard to say "no" to a mound of stuffing, or a piece of pecan pie, but wait, don’t let the extra calories bother you today, that’s not what this holiday is about! It’s time to let your guard down and enjoy yourself. By making smart decisions, you won’t fill up too much and force yourself into a food coma that puts you out of commission the next day or maybe two. Here are a few tips to remember this Thanksgiving: READ MORE |

How to...Stay PositiveBy November 18, 2011 - 10:00am The days are getting significantly shorter, the temperature is starting to reach “winter coat weather,” and final exams are right around the corner. If you’re anything like my friends and I, you are probably questioning what seemed like a very rational decision when you toured here in the summer, why do we go to school in Maine? In additional to all of the emotional effects resulting from the changing seasons, we can all attest to the tension and grief felt throughout campus over the past few weeks. In light of all these recent events, it is important to remember to stay positive. Here are a few things we like to do to help surround ourselves with positive energy… READ MORE |

How To...Stay SafeBy November 11, 2011 - 9:59am In light of recent conversation about the prevalence of sexual assault on college campuses (that’s right, not just Colby), I thought I would dedicate this blog entry to talking about how to stay safe. If you didn’t read Desiree Shayer’s post on the Civil Discourse from Monday, I suggest you go through your gmail trash and look at it. Like most victims of sexual assault, Desiree did not do anything wrong. However, someone on this campus drugged her drink. Desiree ended up spending a week in the hospital recovering. READ MORE |

How To: Survive the Rest of the Semester (and not get too stressed along the way)By November 6, 2011 - 2:44pm I just had the craziest week of the semester. Actually, of my entire experience at Colby. I had three papers due (including a research paper) and an oral presentation just yesterday. Although I had done plenty of planning in advance (I even stayed in the weekend before Halloween to get ahead on my work,) I still was up until 5 AM one night this week. READ MORE |

How To… Survive Your Twenty-first Birthday WeekendBy October 24, 2011 - 1:39pm So I turned twenty-one last weekend, and boy, was it an adventure. Everyone says it’s not that exciting, but trust me, it is. I no longer have to worry about getting in trouble for underage drinking. Big plus. But as excited as I was, I was also worried about the pressures around drinking now that I could do it legally—having everyone buy me a drink, handing me cups filled with God knows what, and demanding that I finish everything. And I wanted to remember my weekend, mostly so my mom wouldn’t worry, but also because I want to be able to tell stories about it to my family and friends for years to come. Luckily for me, I didn’t black out, or even throw up. But it wasn’t easy. So here are some good ways to make sure you remember and enjoy your twenty-first... |

How to...Have Trendy HairBy October 1, 2011 - 9:27am The first time I saw a hair wrap in a girl’s hair was when I was in first grade. Hair wraps were such a fad! I saw a stand for wraps in Disney World and my sister and I begged our father to let us get them. But being a typical dad (and not knowing what the hell a hair wrap was), he said no. I don’t think I ever asked for a hair wrap again because the fad died down pretty quickly. Then this summer, all of a sudden, hair wraps made a come back! Everywhere magazine I opened featured hair wraps in the beauty section. I’d see girls on the street with hair wraps all the time. I thought the trend would die down again, but now it’s been almost 4 months and I’m still seeing them everywhere! READ MORE |

How to... Make the Most of Your ClosetBy September 23, 2011 - 11:04am I love the start of school. Especially the first month, when you move around everything in your dorm five bagillion times so that everything is well arranged and you can figure out where to put all of your stuff. Cause let’s be honest, those college wardrobes don’t fit it all. Last year, I was determined to have all of my stuff organized. I went crazy on the plastic boxes and storage bins at The Container Store. But I lived in a triple, and things got messy in my closet. So I decided I needed some new tactics for this year.
