Sixteen Must Do’s before you Leave “The Hill”

 It’s crazy to think about, really. In less than a month, the school year will be over and you’ll be off vacationing or relaxing at home for the summer. And while it is tempting to put off that economics problem set—or maybe you have an English paper like I do, or an oral presentation, or maybe even an art project—by spending an inordinate amount of time planning out every last detail of what you’ll be doing over the summer, don’t forget to enjoy your last few weeks on The Hill! “Turn-off” Self-Consciouness

It’s no big secret that many women are affected by cultural standards of body image. A recent study surveyed 2000 girls between the ages of ten and fourteen (in the US and the UK) about how they viewed their own body— 77% described themselves in “negative terms.” Within the 77%, many admitted to feeling fat, ugly, or just generally not measuring up to their friends and the media.

Paris has a reputation as the “city of love.” It is the ideal city for young couples because it is full of romantic attractions such as the Pont des Arts, Jardin du Luxembourg, and most famous of all, the Eiffel Tower. Not to mention, there are hundreds of fancy restaurants to choose from. Only one problem…it’s across the ocean from us here on Mayflower Hill.
 
Any girl (or guy) knows that Waterville is no Paris. Still, Waterville does have some great options for dates; you just have to find them. To spare you the effort (and plane ticket), I’ve asked fellow Colby students about their favorite restaurants for dates and best post-date activities.

Toxin Myths: Breaking Down Your Bottle

A few years ago—after some testing brought some negative results into the limelight—a nation-wide scare of the dangers of plastic water bottles began. Parents everywhere began throwing out the entire rainbow spectrum of colored Nalgene bottles, and replaced them with their more expensive, metal counterparts— the Sigg bottle. Before we learned whether the investment was actually worth the health benefits, not to mention the lack of exciting color options, the nation was most likely excited by another, more controversial, FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) discovery.
