Miley: Fun or Done?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Colby chapter.

Miley has been all over our Instagrams, Twitters, and Facebook feeds lately. Whether she’s twerking on Robin Thicke, naked on a wrecking ball, or bleaching her eyebrows, Miles is constantly keeping us on our toes. But after all of these crazy stunts, the question now is: fun or done?

She started off as sweet, innocent Hannah Montana, a teen-pop icon that I know I’ll never forget. That closet behind the closet? Seriously my dream. But after the show got cancelled and she finished her tours and 3D movie (went to the opening night premiere, obvi), Miley started to grow up and out of the Hannah phase. She started wearing crop tops and short shorts, and let’s not forget the salvia incident. And then, all of a sudden, Miley cut off all of her hair, started sticking out her tongue every chance she got, and Liam broke up with her, therefore ending one of the most attractive young Hollywood couples that there was. Everyone started to criticize her and lose faith in her. To be honest, I’ve always had a place in my heart for Miley, and I think I will always will no matter what. So, I’m clearly on the side of fun, but what about the haters who aren’t fans of Bangerz?

Alright, so let’s get real. Miley is crazy. She’s done some really ridiculous stuff in the past year or so, especially her eyebrow makeover incident. I will admit that her path has been a little bumpy and disappointing at times, but we also have to remember that Miley is a performer. Our culture is so jaded that nothing really shocks us anymore. Miley does what she has to in order to stay fresh in our minds. I was procrastinating on work the other day and watched an interview with Miley on the Today Show, and throughout the whole interview she kept saying that everything she does is calculated. She knows exactly what she’s doing in order to stay unique in her performances, and why shouldn’t she? We’re still talking about her a month later, so she’s clearly doing something right. On the other hand, I will admit that she’s been doing some cray stuff, so if you’re still on the “done” side, I get where you’re coming from.

Okay, so here we are with both sides of the argument on Miley: fun or done, love or hate. She went from smiley Miley to Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana to crazy Miley, but she’s still here. And I don’t know about you, but I think she’s here to stay, at least for the time. So whether you’re h8erz or Bangerz, get on board, because Miles can’t stop, and she won’t stop.
