DIY Blog: Melted Crayon Art

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CMU chapter.

About the Project:

I have (and you probably have too) seen these all over the Internet and Pinterest. These melted crayons look beautiful as art. Better yet, the colors are customizable! This canvas art will add a cool touch to your dorm or apartment. Have fun!

Materials Needed:

-White Canvas (Any size)

-Crayons (Number of crayons depends on how big your canvas is)

-Hot glue gun

-Hair dryer

-Newspaper

Step-by-Step:

  1. Take all your crayons out and order them by color. This will give a rainbow effect (or gradient, whichever colors you choose).

  1. Glue the crayons side by side onto the top of the canvas with your hot glue gun. Make sure there are no spaces between the crayons.

  1. Set your canvas against a wall and on top of newspaper. Take your hair dryer and hold it up against the canvas to melt the crayons. Each section should take an average of about 5 minutes to melt, but feel free to melt it longer depending on how far you want the effect to go. Some colors, like yellow, take longer to melt than others. The color may also splatter a little because it is wax, so make sure to monitor the melting direction. Enjoy your new décor! You will be sure to get a lot of compliments.
