During family weekend, certain things are expected; the president’s greeting, each college’s welcome, and some displays of student artwork or performances. However, nothing could prepare you for the 13th annual Chili Cook-off, which was supported by the Student dormitory Council and the Activities Board. Multiple organizations took part in making chili, which families and students were encouraged to taste and judge for the coveted prize of bragging rights.
The chili ranged from mild but flavorful, to hot and spicy. Each person was given a souvenir mug for the event, and a scoop of each contestant’s chili. The highlight for me, though, was the names of the chili. From a play on a sorority name to “Netflix and Chili”, they drew in a lot amusement while people tasted them. Though not yet announced, the winner is surely deserving, as each organization obviously put a lot of effort into creating the chili, and they all tasted very good.
