Seth Winterroth. During my first couple of days at CMC, I kept hearing the name tossed back and forth by my new peers. One person told me he used to plan all the parties. Another said he has a really cool apartment near my new dorm. Another guy looked at me like I was crazy when I asked, “wait, who’s Seth Winterroth?” But seriously. Who is this Seth Winterroth? I was so intrigued to meet him, as he easily is the most well known person on campus. A CMC celebrity? I think yes.
I remember when I first finally met Seth. He was working at the Hub store and I begged him to use my extra flex dollars. I saw him again when my sister interviewed at the Admissions office. A week later I saw him again talking to my good friend. His presence graces over a variety of places and people at CMC. It is definitely not unusual to run into him in the most unexpected places on campus.
“My role on campus is to be as involved as possible. I want to do everything I can to bring the students at our school together,” said Winterroth. He likes having a less formal leadership role on campus. Currently, he works at the Admissions Office and is one of the 10 senior interviewers. He also is on the Students Affairs Committee, one of the 4 committees formed by the Board of Trustees. Over the years he has had his fair share of on campus jobs including working in the Dean of Students office, mailroom, refereeing intramural sports, and working in the Hub Store. During his sophomore and Junior years he was Student Activities Chair (SAC) and was responsible for planning all the parties on campus.

Seth sincerely cares about assimilating the underclassmen into the CMC community as he purposely chose to live in the Auen apartment to be closer to campus. The senior apartments seemed like a good bonding experience with his classmates, but that didn’t cut it for Seth. “I feel like the duty of the upperclassmen is to do what it takes to instill in the underclassmen what CMC is all about. I want them to learn and thrive in the system. That way, the good things we love about CMC continue to exist for years to come.”
He describes fellow CMC’ers as extroverted, ambitious, and social. When he was a freshman, the upperclassmen did a good job of making Seth feel acclimated to the CMC culture, and he wanted to do the same.
One of the ways he spices up the campus are with his infamous parties. “I like to have a good time and I try to think of what I can do to bring everyone together.” His holiday formal and lingerie parties were big hits this past year. Whether he is talking to a random sophomore about their day or getting ready for one of his regular kickbacks, he is always making this campus a better place, formally and informally.
As he finishes up his senior year, he is looking forward to apply everything he learned at CMC to his travels. After graduation he is flying to Asia with friends to roam around countries such as Japan, Philippines, South Korea and China. “I want to see what the world has to offer and have as many new experiences as I can.. I am 22 years old and my education is just beginning. I am excited to be in a position where I can control the curriculum [of my life.]”
When he isn’t uniting CMC’s campus and traveling, he misses his time working as a camp counselor at an all boys camp in Maine called Owatonna. He worked as a counselor for four summers since his junior year of high school. He loves working with kids and daydreams of winning the lottery and running his own summer camp.
