Might Just Be The Best Season Yet! Fall Football Schedule is IN

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Clemson chapter.

The Clemson Tigers’ 2013 Football Schedule has been released and there are 185 days until the season opener versus the Georgia Bulldogs… Yes, we have a countdown- it’s never too early to get ready for football season. Especially since considering the number of orange dresses you’ll need for next year matters when you’re picking out new summer clothes!

Building success over the past few years and becoming an ACC favorite introduces new opportunities for the Tigers. This includes two non-conference games opening with the Georgia Bulldogs at home (pray it’s a night game!), and closing the season every with the South Carolina Game Cocks in Columbia. We also have 3 opponents being from the top 10 teams in 2012. Tajh Boyd (senior quarterback) and Sammy Watkins (junior wide-receiver) are expected to lead the Tigers to greatness with the rest of our marvelous players. But this isn’t the only excitement.

Two Thursday night games are scheduled for this year for the first time since 2002, and only the third time in history. The first Thursday game will be played as the ACC opener versus North Carolina State at Carter-Finley Stadium on September 19. The second will be played at home in Memorial Stadium versus Georgia Tech on November 14.

A Thursday night game will mean a completely different atmosphere for the campus game day. Where Saturday afternoon games have always dominated our schedule, leaving time for tailgating all morning and post-game fun with no fear of classes the next day, having the game on Thursday means matching school up against football…

As Athletic Dan Radakovich said on TigerNet about the game, “All of us within the Department of Athletics understand the complexities of playing host to a Thursday night game and the challenges it presents for many on campus, including professors with afternoon classes. We will work with President Jim Barker, university administrators, and the appointed team to make the event a wonderful example of what Clemson University can do.”

This means, when the time comes, at least try not to skip your classes to tailgate all day the way you would on a Saturday. Though, if we’re being honest, we all know what we’re going to choose. Hey maybe Clemson might plan on canceling class… Wouldn’t that be nice?  The exhilaration of a night game, the spirit behind cheering under the lights, is unmatched and must be appreciated and taken advantage of. Who knows when we’ll have this chance again?

With 7 home games and 5 away games awaiting the team, all that we can feel now is excitement for the coming season. So, prepare for the fun and GO TIGERS!
