As excited as I was to be Tiger Town bound this past summer, I was disheartened I was moving even further away from my significant other (SO). Clemson, South Carolina is not the most convenient place to be when flights from GSP (Greenville) to LGA (New York) are always at least $430, if not more.

As fall has started and temperature cools, I know I’m not the only one on campus wishing I could stroll through President’s Park hand in hand with my SO. The struggle is real as I constantly tell myself “absence makes the heart grow stronger”. When I find myself thinking of all the many events and activities I wish I could be doing with my SO in our adorable college town, I try to think of activities we can do even with 771 miles separating us. I always appreciate tips from others in LDRs to keep the connection in spite of feeling like we’re living two separate lives. Hope these 4 tips might spark some ideas for you too!

·      Find an activity you can both do over the phone or skype. For us, it has been reading a book before we go to bed. I ordered the same book for myself and my SO, so we both take turns reading every other night or so. We’re currently reading The Fault in Our Stars. We also have TV shows we both enjoy watching while texting or Facetiming our reactions.

·      ALWAYS text or talk daily. It’s easy to get caught up in your schedule when you’re living apart, but there’s nothing more important than being a part of each other’s day. I usually go to sleep before my SO, so he texts me a message to wake up to after we’ve said goodnight. Since I wake up before him, I send him a message for him to read before he wakes. It’s a sweet reminder you’re thought of.

·      Let’s be honest, there are thousands of cute things you’d love to receive in the mail. If you find things on the internet you’re tempted to buy, maybe show/email it to your SO and let them know (or hint) it’d be a nice surprise. Been wanting a birch box subscription!? Send the link to your SO telling them if they ever want to surprise you that would be great. You should definitely have each other’s mailing addresses if you’re in an LDR. I recently sent my SO this awesome mirror decal that says “Hey Handsome”. It caught him off guard to receive it, but made him feel special! When he looks in the mirror he’s reminded I think he’s the most handsome guy I know. (http://www.owenandfred.com/products/hey-handsome-mirror-art)

·      If you’ve never heard of the app Couple DOWNLOAD IT NOW! This app allows you to keep messages, pictures, and “moments” with your significant other in one place. My favorite part is the “thumb kiss”, where if you and your partner are both using the app at the same time, you can touch the screen to show your partner you’re there. In return your partner can touch the same spot and it’ll light up red to show you’re “touching”. Couple also allows you to make to-do lists together or plan events to look forward to. It’s extremely cheesy, but I promise it’ll make you smile.
