6 Places to Study Besides Cooper

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Clemson chapter.

If you have been anywhere near Cooper Library in the past few days, you have realized that you need to do some stalking and hide behind the shelves and pounce as soon as someone gets up to leave their table or desk. If you don’t want to waste your time walking up and down every floor hoping to get lucky, there are lots of other spots around campus and Clemson to study.

1.     Classroom buildings.

Most of the time especially during this dreaded week of the year, the doors to the academic buildings are open. Since it is something less people seem to know about or think about going to, it’s a great opportunity for a quiet place to yourself. It’s also great for study groups because it’s a lot of space and you do not have to worry about being as quiet as you would in the library.

2.     Academic Success Center

If you have never been inside this new building, you need to check it out. There are lots of study lounges with comfy chairs and tables. They also have some study alcoves and rooms like the library if you’re like me and get too distracted in the lounges with people watching.

3.     Lounge where you live

I believe that every dorm on campus has some type of lounge where you could go if you don’t wanna stay in your room but don’t want to walk somewhere far. I have even seen people studying in the laundry rooms, so get creative! Most of the apartment complexes off campus also have rooms in the clubhouses where you could camp out for a few hours.

4.     Coffee shops

Clemson has a ton of little coffee shops besides Starbucks and Dunkin, which are of course options as well. All In Coffee Shop is right in downtown as well as Spill the Beans (and you could get some delicious ice cream there too). Moe Joe Coffee and Music House is on Old Greenville Highway too.

5.     Outside

I know we would normally not think this is an option for the Fall Semester finals, but this week is going to be pretty warm. It’s nice to get out of the tiny little rooms and desks and see some sunlight. The amphitheater is one of my favorite places to study. It’s especially convenient right in the middle of campus if you’re doing some last minute cramming.

6.     Your own room

Personally, this is my favorite place to study but some people feel distracted. If you don’t need your computer, put it away. If you do need it but just because that’s where your notes are then turn off the Wifi so you can’t procrastinate on the Internet. Put the TV remote somewhere that you would have to go out of your way to get it so you have less chances of being distracted.
