Many students coming into college dread the idea of a roommate. Coming from their own king size bed, walk in closet, and maybe even bathroom, they’re use to sitting on a throne of privacy and independence. However, having a roommate is the most important aspect of the college experience. Knowing someone will be there for you whenever and wherever is one of the best feelings, especially when it’s someone other than mom or dad. Here are 10 benefits of sharing a room and having a roommate:

1. Someone is always there to say goodnight.

2. Double the outfit options for Friday nights.

3. Midnight snacking is better when there’s two spoons in the ice cream tub.

4. Running (mostly walking) to the gym is more motivating.

5. He/She is always there to wipe your tears from a bad breakup.

6. Their family becomes your family, especially when it comes to tailgates and homemade meals.

7. You’ll always have extra hands for painting nails and curling hair.

8. Study dates to Cooper Library become less dreadful (and maybe less productive).

9. 24/7 advice and 24/7 phone calls and texts

10. They’re your go-to person, best friend, and soon to be maid or man of honor.
