Holiday Gift Wrapping Tips and Tricks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Clark chapter.

The holiday season is a time for giving and finding the perfect gifts for friends and family is one of the best feelings in the world. Wrapping up all these treasures can be fun but if you don’t enjoy gift wrapping it can seem like a huge challenge. If the thought of gift wrapping makes you crazy but you still want your presents to look beautiful, don’t fret! Simplicity is often the best way to go, and these tips will help make wrapping a breeze.

1. When in doubt, opt for a gift bag. Gift bags are always an easy option but getting the tissue paper in just right can be a challenge. Here is a fool proof way to get the tissue paper looking perfect every time:

  • Place one sheet of tissue paper on a flat surface square in front of you.
  • Place a second piece of tissue paper on top of the first one but this time, turn this one so that it looks like a diamond.
  • Pinch the middle of the two sheets of tissue paper and pull up swiftly.
  • Stuff them into the gift bag to get the perfect tissue paper placement!

2. If you struggle with creating beautiful bows, skip them! Ribbon and bows can be the most annoying and difficult part of gift wrapping, so don’t stress over them. There are plenty of ways to add flair to your gifts without using a single strand of ribbon. One of the best ways is by making creative gift tags. Here is a super simple way to make gift tags that add just enough pizazz to gifts:

  • Cut a piece of cardstock into any shape you desire. You could do a simple square (shown below), a Christmas tree, a star, a circle or whatever you want.
  • Find letter stickers in silver or gold like these ones from Michael’s.
  • Stick your cardstock shape in the center of the gift and then stick the gift recipient’s first initial sticker on top of it. You could also write out their full name or do their first, middle and last initials.

3. For hard to wrap gifts, roll them up in tissue paper and tie bows onto either end. This is the easiest gift wrapping trick and makes the gifts look like pieces of candy! You can jazz them up by using special tissue paper and curly ribbon.

4. Use Mason Jars to hold small gifts. You’d be surprised how much can fit inside a Mason Jar, especially the big ones! If your gifts can fit snug inside a Mason Jar, you can make it festive by adding a cute muffin cup to the lid. Simply put the lid on the jar, place a muffin cup over it with the bottom facing up and secure it by screwing on the screw top. You can also write on the muffin cup to use it as a gift label. Add some ribbon and you’re done!

Hopefully these tricks will take the stress out of gift wrapping and make your gifts the cutest they’ve ever been! And just for fun, here’s a video tutorial on how to wrap a real live cat!
