From Not to Hot: Mama June’s Weight Loss Journey

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Clarion chapter.

Most people recognize June Shannon, aka “Mama June,” as being the mother to the spunky and flamboyant “Honey Boo Boo” from the TLC show Toddlers and Tiaras. The family gained a surprising amount of attention from being on the show and in turn were given their own show on the network Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. On the show, viewers were given an inside look on the life of Alana, her family and their many hilarious adventures along with the craziness of being involved in pageantry.

Recently, Mama June has decided to make some changes in her personal life regarding her weight. Her new show, Mama June: From Not to Hot on WeTv shows the process in which she goes through in order to lose weight in hopes to become not only healthier, but happier. Her journey was kick-started with a weight-loss procedure. After her recovery she was set on continuing to make strides in the right direction. She got in touch with Kenya Crooks, weight loss expert, for help with training and a diet plan. After weeks of exercise and healthier eating, Mama June was weighed for the first time since her surgery in a recent episode. She came in at 211 lbs, a big difference from her 352 lbs before the surgery. She lost 84 lbs over the course of 8 weeks with the help of her trainer. They have also developed a strong bond. June admitted that she wants to lose weight because she is going to her ex husband’s wedding in a few short months. Kenya says that her weight loss should be for herself, not to get back at anyone. Mama June’s goal is to get down from her current size of 18, to a size 4 before the wedding.
