Warm Up by Making Your Own Apple Cider

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cincinnati chapter.

When I think of fall, I think of apples—apple pie, apple crisp, caramel apples…but especially apple cider! It is one of my personal favorites, but what can I say, I am a sucker for anything apple. In hopes of getting everyone in the fall mood and reminding us all that it’s not winter just yet (no matter how cold), I have decided to share one of my favorite apple cider recipes! Enjoy!

Homemade Starbucks Caramel Apple Cider

Ingredients:

  • Apple juice or apple cider (Tree Top brand is recommended but any apple juice or cider will do)
  • Caramel sauce
  • Whipped cream
  • Cinnamon dulce syrup (recipe below)

Directions:

  • Start by adding six* tablespoons of cinnamon dulce syrup to a mug or sauce pan
  • Next, add 12 oz. of apple juice or cider and heat on medium in a saucepan until hot but not boiling. (If you are using a microwave, it will be about two minutes.) Once it has reached that state, pour into a mug.
  • Finish by topping with caramel sauce and whipped cream! Bon appétit!

*I would start at 2 tablespoons and work your way up so the mixture isn’t too sweet. I like about 2 and ½ tablespoons, but everyone is different.

Cinnamon Dulce Syrup

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup of brown sugar
  • ½ cup of white sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 tablespoon of cinnamon

Directions:

  • Add ½ cup of white sugar and ½ cup of brown sugar to a saucepan
  • Next, add 1 cup of water and stir. Bring mixture to a slow boil and then remove from heat
  • Stir in tablespoon of cinnamon

The syrup will last about a week in a sealed container.
